Fashion tips from an unlikely source
6.19.11 by Q3
When I was growing up, my mom gave me some very wise fashion advice:
1. Build your wardrobe around some really great fashion basic items in classic styles.
2. Buy the best items that you can afford, quality apparel will last for years.
3. Find designers who suit you and stick with them, but mix up designer clothes with ready-to-wear items.
4. Your look with accessories, and by combining items in unlikely way.
5. Black is the most elegant color.
6. Never get rid of anything – you may need it someday.
7. Never pay retail – everything can be purchased with a discount or on sale.
Of course, I ignored most of her advice – well except that black is my color of choice and I rarely get rid of anything. Many years later, I still have way too many clothes (probably enough for 10 people) and am the proud owner of a few items that still have the original tags and have never been worn, a beautiful silk dress that was too great a sale item to pass up but is a color I never wear, an aspirational pair of pants that are two sizes small than my body (I will wear them someday, I really will!), a linen suit with a long pleated skirt that looked great the first time I wore it but is impossible to keep wrinkle free, etc. etc.
Earlier tonight, I was thinking about Adam’s black gabardine pants and how on one night he used them as part of a pirate costume and a couple days later they were part of a paparazzi-worthy, rock-star at lunch in LA look. I thought about my mom’s fashion rules – the rules I know that I ought to follow – and realized that Adam actually does follow these rules (except for rule #7).
I have never emulated the behavior of any celebrity before, but when it comes to fashion, I think I have a lot to learn from Mr. Lambert. So perhaps, I should just plow through my closets and chuck out everything that doesn’t meet my mom’s fashion rules. Seems to work for Adam.
My only question is how does Adam know my mom?
ETA: I wrote the above article early this morning -- and in a totally perverse way wrote a story about my mom on FATHER'S DAY!!!!

My Fellow Fans: Friend or Foe?
6/19/2011 by NoAngel
It’s an interesting time in the fandom. While Adam keeps a low profile and works like mad on his next album, his fans are left to their own devices to amuse themselves. And let’s face it, once we’ve watched our favorite YT vids for the 17th time and organized our pic files based on a personalized UNF rating and identified every stitch of clothing in the latest pap photo, time hangs heavy on our hands. For lack of anything new and significant from Adam, many fans look to (and at) each other for entertainment. From there they move on to categorizing other fans and assigning them value. And then the real fun begins—telling other fans the right and wrong way to be a fan!
Some fans proudly proclaim that they are all about the music and only the music. Which seems lovely, or wait… is it really closet homophobia? Other fans expand their interests beyond Adam and are interested in the doings of his band members or friends. That seems nice, or wait, no it’s not—it’s creepy and/or stalkerish. The numbers geeks roll their eyes at the voiceberts and vice versa. The eternal optimists who see superstardom in Adam’s future are sneered at by those who set their sights lower.
The fans who love everything Adam does are accused of being delusional. The fans who criticize something Adam does are accused of being hateful. Fans who want glittery, OTT Adam are supposedly stuck in the past and want to stick him in a box. The fans who adore a stripped-down, more-leather-less-glam Adam are said to be too mainstream.
Going by what you hear online, the fans who like Tommy are insane, the fans who like Sauli are ridiculous, and the fans who don’t care about either are still hoping for Kradam to happen. And then, who is the better fan—the one who buys one copy of Adam’s CD and berts in secret, or the one who buys multiple copies and passes them out to anyone who shows an interest? The one who goes to a couple of concerts and stands ~casually in the back, or the one who goes to three dozen and gets thisclosetothestage every time? Is it praiseworthy to get carpal tunnel voting in every possible Adam-related poll? Or to tweet Adam advice on when to cut his hair or when to go to bed?
In my hearts-and-flowers world, I wish everyone could play nice and appreciate the diversity in the fandom. My more cynical side realizes that that’s not human nature. It’s normal for people to split into factions and cliques, based on point of view or age or mutual interest. It’s normal to get all judge-y about those who think differently.
You may think I’m going to suggest that we all “get along” and make nice to each other.
Nah. This is my first fandom, but it’s not my first rodeo. I may be a hippie at heart but I’m also a realist, and I’m quite sure that the fandom factions will continue. But I choose not to angst about it. What’s cool about stanning Adam in the time of social networking is that just about anyone can find a comfortable place to hang out. Whether you have a locked Twitter account and share your thoughts with a handful of friends, or you are part of a larger forum or community, chances are you can happily bert with those who share your perspective.
When it comes down to it, what we all have in common is that we love Adam and we want him to be successful. We all agree that anyone who hurts Adam deserves to be drawn and quartered. We all agree that his voice is fantastic.
Adam is a complex and multi-faceted person. It stands to reason that his fanbase isn’t one giant homogenous mass nodding in unison. How boring would that be? I’ll take our wild and diverse fanbase any day. And I have a feeling Adam likes it that way too.

Adam’s Black Jeans – Spotted!
5.19.11 by Q3
We have heard that Adam’s album is “KILLER!” And I guess we will have to wait a bit to find out if that is true. But we know that the black jeans that Adam recently wore to “Pirates & Ninjas” and again on Friday when he was photographed with Alisan Porter are killer. And Ninja cayman found the jeans.
Designed by Neil Barret who is known for his street-inspired styling these black jeans look like they were designed for Adam. Barret has a background in both sportswear and luxury wear, and his designs bring together minimalist, urban clothing with meticulous finesse in tailoring. Luxury with a real-live twist or two -- seems like a great designer for Adam Lambert to me.
If you would like to purchase these stretch cotton gabardine jeans, and you have a spare $605, you can order them here: www.luisaviaroma.com/index.aspx?#getData.aspx|CallType=Product&prodId=05I013&season=sale&gender=men&group=clothing&des=106&cat=&seasProdID=53I
Note: In the official Ninja scorebook, knowing someone who can point you to the info is just as good as finding it on your own. 30 point to cayman.
A great Adam GIF!

Google Supports Gay Pride Month With Rainbow Icon
By On Top Magazine Staff
Published: June 18, 2011
Users searching for gay-related topics on Google are being given a thumbs up by the search giant.
Google is supporting Gay Pride, celebrated in the month of June, with the addition of a rainbow icon to its otherwise spartan search box.
The six-color rainbow has become universally associated with Gay Pride since San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker introduced his gay flag 33 years ago next week. Baker first flew his creation in San Francisco's Gay Freedom Day Parade on June 25, 1978.
This isn't the first time Google has supported the gay community and the Mountain View, California-based company is considered one of the most gay-friendly corporations.
Google came in second after IBM on the International Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce's (IGLCC) latest annual list of international companies that offer LGBT employees the best work environment.
The company's decision to highlight the It Gets Better Project in a nationally televised commercial released last month for its Chrome browser has been condemned by groups opposed to gay rights. Gay rights activist Dan Savage's campaign reaches out to troubled gay teens who might be considering suicide or feel isolated. (Google's video ad featuring appearances by Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga is embedded in the right panel of this page.)

GLAAD Leadership Update --- Barrios Voted Out!
6.19.11 by Q3
The Washington Blade posted these two updates last yesterday:
UPDATE: According to Politico, the Executive committee of GLAAD’s Board of Directors has voted to remove Jarrett Barrios as President of the organization.
UPDATE 2: According to both Michelangelo Signorile and the Bilerico Project, Rich Ferraro is confirming that Jarrett Barrios has stepped down as GLAAD’s President.
Link: www.washingtonblade.com/2011/06/18/glaads-communication-breakdown/
In December 2009, GLAAD led by Jarrett Barrios briefly supported ABC in their “battle” with Adam Lambert. Within 24 hours, protests from gay activists and Adam Lambert fans, along with outrage from GLAAD’s Board of Directors resulted in Barrios claiming he was misunderstood, etc. etc. This was one of a few occasions during Barrios’ leadership where GLAAD sided with corporate interests rather than the popular gay rights position.
For almost 2 years, and for many other reasons than the strange action that GLAAD took in the Adam Lambert “scandal”, GLAAD has moved far away from its 1985 origin as a grassroots action network supporting gay rights and equality. I hope this action is just the first step to refocusing this organization on this vital mission and to stop wasting time and energy on corporate mergers and net neutrality.

Voting Opportunities
I have changed my recommendation on VH1 Do Something Awards to DO NOT VOTE
5.27.11 by Q3
On 5.25.11 I recommended voting in this competition. Since then I have done some additional research and testing.
1. Voting for the celebrity online awards is just a way to build awareness for the real awards show.
2, Adam is not nominated for any award. The only way to vote for Adam is as a write-in. It takes much longer to cast a write-in vs. voting for a nominee. There is no limit on voting. So 10 minutes of Adam fan voting time can be wiped out in about 1 minute by someone voting for a nominee.
Poll rating (0=lowest rating, 10=highest rating)
Adam benefit: 3 ¨C a win could raise awareness of The Trevor Project.
Fairness: 3 - there is an attempt to limit voting for just one category but it is very easy to work around.
Potential to win: 9 ¨C The voting structure makes a write-in vote very timeconsuming.
Fan value: 2
RECOMMENDATION ¨C vote only if you are willing to work really hard.
About the awards: DoSomething.org and VH1 have partnered to present The Do Something Awards to honor young people's commitment to social change. VH1 is doing a series of online contests to promote this event ¨C they have nominees but also accept write-ins. One of the celebrity categories could help Adam but, more importantly make a difference.
The category: Charity Song
The write-in: @adamlambert for "Aftermath Remix" and mention the Trevor Project.
You need to sign in on Twitter or Facebook to vote.
Below the SUBMIT button, it says:
¡°Did we miss your favorite?

Adam benefit: 5 ¨C could result in a TV mention and video clip being played during show.
Fairness: 6 ¨C spamable but bot/automated voting prevention.
Potential to win: 2 ¨C There are 25 videos up for this awards -- it will take a lot fan effort.
Fan value: 5 ¨C yes, this one results in a mention of Adam on an important Canadian award show.
RECOMMENDATION ¨C This is worth some effort. Play when you get a chance.
