From yesterday but I figured I'd bring the talk here to today...

Talon.......you are so VERY generous with your insight/feedback/history lessons
. Please, may I ask for your opinion........you mentioned (correct me, of course, if I am wrong) you purchased and enjoyed FYE, you purchased, but, did not like Trespassing........is this because you were hoping Adam would be more rock/Queen music for second album? Queen fans seem to be warming up to him, however, are they going to be disappointed in Trespassing because it is not rock? Just wondering, you do not have to answer, I just have this weird feeling radio, etc. wanted a more rock Adam not a pop Adam.
Certainly
This may be long and I hope I don't offend as I realize I'm a guest on an Adam site
I like Adam's voice ever since AI. I got a few of his pre-Idol things on Youtube or whatever...I got FYE a bit before I saw him on tour (I'm guessing the Glam Nation tour - he hasn't really done another one right?) I enjoyed FYE. I wouldn't say it was in heavy heavy rotation, but a few of the tracks I definitely enjoyed: The singles, Soaked, Sleepwalker, Aftermath, and Time For Miracles. Basically the tracks that at their hearts were more...organic.
And then I enjoyed the concert for what it was. I was not too impressed with Adam's band, but Adam had a great voice still and had good presence
Fast forward - Better Than I Know Myself came out and again I highly enjoyed that one - I like Adam doing ballads I guess and it gave his voice a chance to wail on the chorus and was looking forward to Trespassing...
But when Trespassing got here, I listened to it about 5-6 times overall and just couldn't help but feel disappointed. To me while the ballads are still pretty decent, the upbeat numbers tended to be overproduced, looking for a sound rather than letting Adam unleash his diva wail of sorts. Almost as if instead of enhancing Adam's gifts, the music almost tries to drown him out. It's catchy at times but I feel as if Adam has yet to really discover who he is....or if he has, good on him, but it's not something I'm likely to follow. In my own opinion he's too good to stay in the dance/pop range that leads to overproduction. I mean he's got to do what makes him happy, but it's just not a genre I'm really into. Now I'm not saying Trespassing was a failure to me, it's just not something I'm going to put on often...more than likely I'll make an Adam playlist with the best of both albums (and the acoustic one) or what not...:)
As to most Queen fans. From what I know of Queen fans, they will appreciate his voice on Trespassing, but like it or not they will dismiss the music as being nothing special, typical top 40 dance/pop stuff. I personally see more than that as I think Adam has great potential, but his current status is kind of holding him back. I do think a more rock type album would help some appreciate him more...
Personally, I really want to know who Adam is. I want to see him step away from all the songwriters/producers and create something from the ground up with minimal influence. THEN see what we get from him. *shrug*

Talon, since I've not been on as much as I'd like (RL, ugh!), I'd like to finally say Welcome to you as well. I wanted to also to mention that there is a particular feeling which resonates after I've read your posts: calm. You are so measured, respectful, gracious, enlightening (sometimes, enlightened by a Topian) and 'unwishy-washy' in your (often times, dissenting) points of view. Strong board-posting traits, those. I look forward to more of your contributions.
I appreciate that
I always feel that the worse happens when someone (on either side of a debate) starts getting heated and emotional and letting their passions overwhelm them it leads to a screaming match that helps nothing. So I try to stay calm and reasoned. For example there have been things said even on here which have made me say "WHAAAAAT?????" But I don't respond to it right away. I try to remember where I am and realize that you guys are as obsessive with AL as I am with Freddie/Queen so I let things pass knowing that I'm sure I've made equally grandiose statements at other times
I can't promise to ALWAYS be successful
But at the end of the day we all have our obsessions (especially) musically and it's all about what affects us
