Philly show was awesome, at least what I saw. So much RL stuff happening but hopped the Amtrak from NYC and got to arena. Yup, I posted from the line to the bathroom and saw the "stream" joke here LOL. Some teens with homemade "I love Adam" cropped t-shirts and shorts were in line, adorable. Met taumbu as I got her extra ticket. It was 5 years ago that I just met her at the GNT Nokia show, when she was wearing a Planet Fierce bracelet and let my DH and me in the line. So my DH was not too thrilled I was running off to Philly by myself; when I reminded him he'd met taumbu, he said. "Yeah I remember what she looks like. Will come in handy when she goes missing."
So many men in the audience. Had great seats up two sections from the floor, stage right. Had fun watching Chris Jericho jam out. Saw two men at the thrust in matching Flash t-shirts. Young woman in Freddie crown and cape near the front.
That moment when the kabuki cape goes up is so fabulous. Sooo nice to see it live. I thought Adam messed up the city name at first in Now I'm Here. His pause to soak it all in was a bit longer than normal and he said something than quickly covered over it. I liked the way he changed AOBTD. I think it works to take out the call and response that early on but maybe it was accidental? The leather outfit is terrific.
When he came out for Lap of the Gods...Revisited, there was a different energy. He was really drawing on the crowd and you could feel the energy level rise. He sprawled on the couch so much that Brian couldn't sit down. During Love of My Life suddenly there was this wonderful singing emanating behind me, with every note and phrase exact. I'll have to compliment her I thought. After the song I turned and it was a dude who practically giggled when I told him he had a great voice. Inwardly I was thinking, dude sings like a lady!
Brian introduced Spike as a bass player then said oops he plays keyboards and said "Fuck it, it's live." Then he went on a little spiel about seeing Katy Perry last night. He said they had no dancers and no clicks. Taumbu and I exchanged looks. Woah, it definitely was a critical jab at her kind of show.
Roger and Adam messing up the end of UP was hilarious, with the "Pressure" totally mistimed. Adam made fun of their mess ups and Roger gave him a big hug after. The disco ball on WWTLF was just awesome. I have to say how much I love Roger's voice. His whole "Thanks great to be back in Philly we're so fucking old didn't think we'd be back" was awwww. The way Roger's voice cuts through the harmonies! I enjoy his voice and Brian's a lot.
The whole middle section and Brian's whale song felt just right to me live. The lights and the Brian in space graphics (LSD would be so perfect for this section) was spot on. Then the show bullds to the next section which surprisingly was my favorite. Enjoyed every song and thought they were superior to the QAL 2012 versions. Adam's call and response is everything. His whole section battle ("this side grew some balls") bit, the way too advanced phrases he kept throwning out had us laughing. Also this time it seemed more jazzy rather than funky.
TSMGO was incredible. And then I pretty much had to leave during Bohemian Rhapsody's video section. Saw event staff bopping in the aisles. Last train to Philly. It was great to hear Adam's voice soaring outside of the arena. Cab driver was shocked I'd come from NYC to the show. I said yeah I'm seeing it again tomorrow. He said "You won't get tires of seeing the same thing again?" Err, no.
And that's a wrap! More tomorrow night.
