BrianMayCom @brianmaycom #SOAPBOX "@ultimateguitar Showdwn: Hve 2thnk folks who sprang 2my supprt. Honour2pair w @dimebagofficial @drbrianmay" tinyurl.com/ozp9u93ULTIMATE GUITAR SHOWDOWN I have to take a minute to thank all you folks who sprang to my support in the Ultimate Guitar poll for ‘Best Guitarist’, and in the end propelled me to win the whole thing. Before we go any further I’m gonna have to say I don't for a moment think I’m ‘best’ … a better player than all those wonderful players, many of whom are the reason I’m a guitarist at all ? … Jim Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Eric Clapton ? … well, I don’t think so. I’m just happy to have been considered on the same page as these heroes of mine. But the fact that so many people voted me to the top in this very enjoyable bit of fun means a lot to me. To me there is no way to categorise or rank rock guitarists … the greatest thing is that they’re all different and impossible to compare. But this is the first time I’ve been honoured by so many people as a significant player, so I’m very grateful. I have one request. If there is a trophy being awarded for this, I’d like to share it with Dimebag Darrell, who isn’t around to enjoy the fact that so many folks are still devoted to him and his great playing. It was a special honour being paired with Dimebag in the final. Cheers Bri Brian is such an amazing class act. Love him. #admire

You know, it's a bit amazing to think how differently things may have gone if Adam had gravitated to different mentors on American Idol. For instance, Slash was another mentor guitarist on AI. Now, I don't know all that much about Slash other than he deserves a trophy for not killing Axl during all his years of douchebaggery, but think for a moment: If there had been no Queen in the AI finale, but Slash tapped Adam for Velvet Underground after Scott Weiland dove into drugdom yet again, how different may have things been?
Not just in terms of music, but in terms of overall example. Hmmmm.....

And bringing back a piece of yesterday's conversation, can someone like Scott Weiland (or a band that uses him) even GET tour insurance anymore??!??

I still feel like I haven't found the right way to explain myself here, but I tried. pic.twitter.com/656mUXgKJh Well, that says in 'eloquent' and quite expressive ways, what I was trying to say yesterday with my post. Obviously, the only line that managed to be successfully extracted from my garbled speech was Showbiz is a strange biz to be in. Glad, somebody found the right words to say it as it is. So TY, Emke. And let me just add: It is a darn tough business to keep your head on straight, or to quote Madonna: 'Keep your eyes on the prize'. ETA: Why did they put the 'edit' button next to the 'quote'? Clearly I can't read, this afternoon. Need to find myself sth else to do.

I'm only part way thru my "best of QAL 2015" playlist but, this has to be my favorite 'Save Me'. His voice is so upfront it is like he is singing in my living room. Many folks don't care for the sound of a more "dry feed" but on this song, less is definitely more, and the purity of Adam's voice shines thru. (Consensus is that somehow, kinkykiedis picked up the feed to Adam's ear monitors, not the front of house sound.) youtu.be/RzLM1ewR1ggIf you haven't downloaded my Leeds audio, it is even better - my best audio of the entire 2014/2015 tour. The acoustics where I was sitting was really awesome!

RONNIE'S MUSIC BLOGLIVE CONCERT REVIEWS AND GENERAL MUSIC POSTS CAUGHT LIVE: QUEEN + ADAM LAMBERT, ECHO ARENA LIVERPOOL 26 FEBRUARY 2015Published February 28, 2015 | By ron500 Towards the end of this set, Brian May asks the capacity crowd at Liverpool’s Echo Arena: “What do you think of the new guy, then?” The roar that came back was the loudest of the night, in recognition of the performance given by Adam Lambert alongside the legendary Queen duo of May and Roger Taylor. This was a completely different experience to the last time the two remaining active members of Queen appeared at this venue (in 2008, with Paul Rodgers as the vocalist). Rodgers is a rock legend in his own right, and although that partnership produced two tours and a studio album (‘The Cosmos Rocks’), it never fully recaptured the spirit of the old band. Asking anybody to step into Freddie Mercury’s shoes is a poisoned chalice, but eyebrows were certainly raised when May and Taylor invited former ‘American Idol’ finalist Adam Lambert into the role. The act was billed as Queen + Adam Lambert in the same way that they did when Rodgers was with them, presumably to show that he is not intended to be a replacement for the late Freddie Mercury. Lambert looked much more the part than Rodgers however; he had the flamboyance, the confidence and the sense of style to pull off the role without actually trying to imitate the icon that was Mercury. It goes without saying he has the vocal talent to back all of this up, his natural tenor range is noticeably higher than that of Mercury in his latter days and this probably explained in part why this set contained several of the band’s earlier songs. The Liverpool date was one of several extra shows added on to the European tour after the initial batch of dates sold well. I admit I had some reservations at first, deciding not to book for Manchester when it was first announced. However the fact they brought the show to this end of the East Lancashire Road swung it for me, and their subsequently well-received televised show on New Year’s Eve will also have won over waverers. The show was billed as starting at 8 sharp, but upon getting into the venue (just about!) for that time there was a long wait, as the PA emitted what sounded like introductory ‘noise’ not unlike what Whitesnake do shortly before hitting the stage. This ‘noise’ went on for up to 30 minutes however, as all we could see was the stage curtain adorned with the ‘Q’ logo. It got to the point where the crowd started doing the dreaded ‘Mexican Wave’ but finally, the lights dipped and the show proper commenced. I was about halfway back on the main floor, still some distance from the extended ramp they had coming from the stage. Opening with ‘One Vision’ just as the original Queen did on their 1986 tour, huge cheers greeted the band and their singer. Unlike 1986 though, Lambert opted to wear a studded leather outfit in a clear homage to Mercury’s late 70s period, the first of several outfits we’d see him in during the show. Queen always did come on stage rocking out, and they followed up with ‘Stone Cold Crazy’ which had your correspondent already reaching for the air guitar! One other parallel with 1986 was that they played ‘In The Lap Of The Gods… Revisited’ this night, albeit with a couple of word changes from Lambert (“It’s so foggy” he sang while engulfed in some dry ice at the back of the stage!) Last played live (to the best of my knowledge) on that final 1986 tour with Freddie, it showed how well the former American Idol star could deal with songs written for Mercury’s upper range. My wild card nomination is the Leno 'Sleepwalker' which got left off the 'Best Televised performance' nominations even though it was nominated. IMO it beats 'Marry the Night' as it's Adam being himself rather than playing a character. There's incredibly hot about the Vulcan Captain Lambert of the Starship Glamnation. It's a crime against music to leave this off An AL best of playlist. vimeo.com/103960354

Quick Question - How does someone who is not an Adam Obsessed Fan learn about what is going on in Adam's career? I come here. Where do most other people go? Is it up to his label to get the news out? And, when they do, what media route would they take to reach an average listener? When people use the term "radio" these days, do they really mean radio, satellite, internet, I=tunes, or just radio? Just wondering.
