I don't post often but I just want to say something in defense of 411 music. I have no idea who that person is but all she did was offer a little advice about Shazam, which Shoshonna verified as correct by way of a tweet to Lamberlust. I actually read the site properly for the first time this morning and there is some good advice in there (e.g. don't link it to Facebook or they will stalk you etc. ) As a facebook novice I wouldn't have known that and I appreciate advice re: keeping Shazam away from my profile info.
Shazam is new and 411's info on how it functions was helpful to me, at any rate. If I hear a song I like, via radio or a retail or restaurant playlist, I should Shazam it because it will communicate to TPTB that somebody liked enough on first listen to want to identify it. After that , I can stream it instead of playing my iTunes library over and over again.
All 411 did was encourage us to sign-up and advise us that Shazaming before the first single/CD drops is ineffective and a waste of time; advice which is pretty much in line with what Shoshanna said and what we are hearing on this site.
THIS IS GOOD TO KNOW! I appreciate 411's effort. It wasn't confusing to me and the fact that a few fans chose to verify her input via Shoshanna is no biggie. Shosh is paid to put up with the aggravation.

I never know quite what to think about contacting Shosh, as that's not my style, but no prob with the initial info. Good to have you posting !

This article from MacRumors Nov 2014 says Pandora isn't counted in Billboards new streaming change. I believe I have read this before. Here is a paragraph from that article: Beginning on December 3, and measuring data during Thanksgiving week, the Billboard 200 will count 10 individual song sales or 1,500 song streams as a standard album sale. Billboard plans to incorporate data from every major streaming audio subscription service, including Spotify, Beats Music, Google Play, and Xbox Music. Ad-supported radio services like Pandora and iTunes Radio will not be counted, as Billboard is only planning to focus on on-demand services.Rest of the article: www.macrumors.com/2014/11/20/billboard-200-chart-streaming-music/We have been talking about helping Adam and Pandora keeps popping up. If it doesn't count, should we concentrate on the services that do? Just wondering. I guess Shoshanna will let us know. Oops...time to get ready for work. I'm sure that is because you can't search specific songs/artists on Pandora and play them. On Spotify, which I use, you can find an album/artist and play just that music but on Pandora it is like a radio station, totally random and up to them what you get.

Thanks for the response. I wouldn't contact Shoshanna either. Fan fights generally seem to start on twitter. It's an impulsive medium. People easily misread and often react too quickly. Of course there is always the delete function but the harsher posts are always screen-capped by some "helpful" person and the next thing you know, a molehill has turned into a mountain.

I have been wondering about how Shazam, which seems very random to me, could be made to work for fan who has very little opportunity to listen to the radio in everyday life Can one bring up the song on their Spotify account or on YouTube, for example, and Shazam it? Would it be obvious that you are gaming the system by Shazaming yourself, and thus the Shazam wouldn't count?

In yesterday's thread people were wondering if young people actually listen to radio and while I can't speak to this as a whole I can speak to the young people I am in contact with, mainly my 20 year old daughter and her friends, and yes, they all listen to radio, on a daily basis. In fact, when we are riding in the car and I have a CD in she always turns it off and puts on the radio. She likes the variety radio gives her. She doesn't stick to one station or even one genre though, bouncing between Top 40/HAC and classic/alternative rock stations in order to avoid the commercials.
She discovers a lot of new music through youtube and spotify and via Second Life, a virtual reality game she plays with people all over the world (her best friend in the game lives in Scotland) that has sims with streaming music. She has introduced me to some really unique and talented artists.

Has that Giorgio Moroder album with all the collaborations come out yet? I remember there was some thought that Adam might be on that based on a report about his name being on a blackboard (or whiteboard, haha) in Moroder's office during some interview...
