I never got the sense she was influenced by Bowie, Madonna more so and ok Queen re her name but that's a whole different discussion not for here. Adam would have been great I'm sure we'll find out in due course what the 14th was all about (if anything). I wish there were a way to include Adam and Queen and Nile as well as Gaga. QAL should reprise UnderPresuure, Adam should do Let's Dance [with Queen and Nile], and Gaga should do Fame and Lazarus. That would be pretty Awesome. Queen and Nile Rodgers could continue back up and Adam could join in at the end of Lazarus...or they could quickly reprise Space Oddity...that would be an awesome set... Like the way you're thinking, mszue....Could you just tweet that and tag Nile Rodgers while you're at it...

I think Gaga is a good choice to be PART of a tribute. She seems to havebeen greatly influenced by Bowie. But her for a whole 7 minute tribute will end up being about Gaga, not Bowie. Even if Adam was not part of my equation, it would be wrong. Agreed Patti, Gaga has often stated that Bowie was a huge influence on her, and even refused to discuss her friendship with him on some UK chat show, maybe it was Jonathan Ross (?) because it was so special to her...So yeah, it seems fitting for her to be part of a tribute, but really, this could've included so many other artists that could've made it really special. I agree 7 mins of gaga will make it feel more about her than Bowie....Seems weird, unless she really is planning to take over the world... :s 7 minutes of GaGa singing Bowie's songs seem like an ETERNITY to me. Sorry...not sorry...just my opinion here. Wish the Grammy's would have been more creative and gathered a group artists to celebrate/sing a tribute to the genius of David Bowie. Top on my list is Adam of course, and, QAL. The same people every year performing at the Grammy's...I'm bored. ETA: Doesn't Clive Davis have a pre-Grammy party every year where artists perform the night before the Grammy's? Maybe Nile is doing something there. But IDK.

A bit of speculation here on my part:
The way this is worded in the NYT, rings to me like, it was a very controversial discussion and Ehrlich, as the top guy, made the final decision. He acknowledges that there were other discussions had, and he gives no meaningful reason for having made the choice that he did make. Sounds like the cowboy heading for the sunset to me. He is right now at the height of his very extensive career, including 30 years with Grammy production. But he is 63 yrs old, he can make any decision he wants, at this point.
This generation will have to retire, before Adam will ever get a chance, imo. I presume that Nile fought for a multi-artist format, he is so widely connected and always loves to bring people together on stage, so there is no doubt in my mind, that producing this one-person exhibition was not his first choice. Ken Ehrlich taking publicly the responsibility for this call, and making such a big deal about that point, maybe because Nile wanted it to be known that it was not his call to do so. Given his ongoing cooperation with Gaga, it could have been easily assumed that Nile pushed for a Gaga showcase, and the way I read it, they agreed to make it very public, that this was not so.
YMMV, but this is how I interpret this rather unusual wording.

I've always been given the impression that the Grammys weren't very expansive creatively...the only time I watched them was when The Mars Volta were finally shown appreciation some years back....so I won't be missing anything. I will watch out for any vids of gaga's performance though...just incase Kanye does decide to drop in...

Sounds like a good idea to me. Mix it up a bit. So many big artists were inspired by Bowie. I didn't know Gaga was an acquaintance of Bowie. So she was inspired by him like many have been. She'll do fine, I guess. I like her in kind of a benign way. Talented, and certainly found the early gimmick schtick that worked for her. I guess I like listening to her more than I like watching her. Adam, on the other hand....... I pray that someday Adam will be the one who is sought after to do these kinds of "legend" gigs. One day the producers, etc., will finally take off their blinders and see the talent that has been there the whole time.
