Adam Lambert brings high octane energy and a fast-paced concert to the Enmore Theatre
February 2, 2016

“ARE you ready to get evil with me?” Adam Lambert asked his Sydney audience on Saturday.
Judging by the response from the packed crowd at the Enmore Theatre, his fans were more than happy to be taken on the high-octane musical and visual journey mapped out by the American glam rocker for the Original High concert.
Lambert has come a long way from his American Idol days — this meticulously polished production showcased many of his newest songs off the album of the same name and his first since breaking away from the RCA Record label.
Perhaps purposefully, the high-voltage concert took the audience on a thrill-seeking ride with little time for a breather and even applause.
Starting things off with the high-energy Evil in the Night and For Your Entertainment, his third song and hit single Ghost Town brought the house down.
Songs, including the nicely-balanced synthpop After Hours, followed in quick succession.
By the time Lambert stopped for the Tears for Fears cover Mad World, it was a relief to be off the rollercoaster for a few minutes and listen to his voice with minimum accompaniment.
Beautifully sung, this was Lambert at his soulful best and the audience loved it.
His new ballad, There I Said It, sung almost entirely in the top vocal register, displayed wonderful angst deserving of the lyrics about truth and lies in a relationship.
Back up to speed, Another Lonely Night, The Light and The Original High took us into a nightclub replete with pink and blue lasers and red and white strobe lights.
His two dancers and band, particularly lead guitarist Adam Ross, brought energy and power to the show, but Lambert always commanded the stage.
David Bowie’s Let’s Dance was a big crowd pleaser however Lambert’s high-energy song Fever and his rendition of Queen’s Another One Bites the Dust brought the house down.
This was good, high-speed entertainment but when the lights went up, I could not help wondering if the trip was over too soon and we could have had a few more pit stops along the way.
