I just read an article that some here may find interesting--I found it fascinating. It talks about Justin Beiber as a vehicle to discuss how fame at a young age is basically trauma. It really reminded me of what Adam said about being happy he didn't become famous at a younger age because he probably couldn't have handled it well. Very thought provoking piece, and I really thought about Adam in relation to a quote from a famous actor the author used. Here's the quote: "I’ve sat in a public place interviewing a major movie star and watched him interrupted every three minutes by well-meaning folks — you and me — asking for an autograph, a selfie, recognition. In each and every instance he was unfailingly gracious, and when I sympathized, he said, “It’s fine. But imagine this happening every three minutes for the rest of your life.” " Link here: www.bostonglobe.com/arts/music/2016/05/12/note-justin-bieber-fame-makes-you-miserable-just-quit/DFeXELX1XGuUDUsoLrVNEI/story.html?p1=Article_Recommended_ReadMore_Pos1What does everyone here think? It would be interesting to hear some other opinions (while we wait for more beautiful Adam pictures to arrive from the LGBT Awards!). I totally agree with the concept that fame can be a trauma - whatever your age but especially when you're young and unprepared. I think a lot of it has to do with what kind of person you are in ordinary life, before you become famous. If you're an outgoing, extrovert, people person it's obvious that you're going to deal with the attention better than someone who's quiet, shy and avoids eye-contact when you pass them in the street. For many people in the public eye, fame isn't a goal in itself, it's an unwelcome by-product of the work they do (probably more so for actors). And even for those whose main goal WAS to be famous, I'm sure they soon find it's not all it's cracked up to be. I had a short period of unexpected "fame" on a very small scale about 10 years ago and that was enough to make me feel extremely sorry for people in the public eye, like the movie star being interrupted all the time by well-meaning fans. I used to describe it as feeling like being pecked by hundreds of birds, all wanting a little piece of me. Apart from the financial element, there wasn't one single aspect of it that I enjoyed, because I've never enjoyed being the centre of attention. To me, someone like Adam is totally suited to fame as in his everyday life he's friendly, outgoing and enjoys talking to people. Justin Bieber strikes me more as the kind of young guy you'd see with his headphones on blocking out the world if you met him on the bus so that kind of person is always going to suffer more from his fame. So in my opinion, fame at a young age is always going to be more challenging than later in life but even more crucial is someone's own personality type as the deciding factor in how they're equipped to deal with it. Interesting discussion point, thanks for introducing it revlisacat.

Hmmm, Roger tweets out "Welcome to ..." during rehearsals. I wonder if there is a hint and a theme here for the upcoming concerts?
Gotta go to work, but will read the Boston Globe article when I get home.

Normally you have a lot of time to prepare yourself for adult life, you have time for mistakes, learning from them, you have plenty of time for yourself to think about it. But with early fame? How do you will know who you really are when there is million people who think that they know better than you who you should be, what you should do, what you should wear, what you should say, what you should think. This is rather scary to think about.

Just noticed ADams only gained 500k twitter followers in three years. Pretty bad. But I guees. When theirs no buzz. And a era more interested in Mass consumption etc. I guess Adam doesn't stack up. Prob could promote himself more. Instead of others haha.

Not sure how much more self promotion you think he could tweet. He has tweeted when he has new material or performances. Perhaps the only thing he could include is more links to videos.
