You are so right, bridgeymah---this photo is iconic. It shows us exactly where Adam was always meant to be, and I found myself staring at it for so long....
Now let me tell you a funny story that always makes me grin when I think of it. When I was a young teacher, working in second grade in Brooklyn, I used to find all kinds of ways to make my lessons catch the attention of my little ones. When teaching the initial consonant sounds, I would try creative ways to get the sounds across---blowing bubbles, for example, for the "B" sound, etc. I wanted to give the children a sense of anticipation-- so I told them we were going to save the best surprise for the very end. And that would be the best of all. "Please tell us,"they would say---but, of course I made them wait.
The day of the consonant Z approached at last!!! When I arrived at my school, I ran into the ladies room to change.{ I couldn't travel the NY subways to work, in my surprise getup!} The bell rang at last, and I rushed to greet my 7 year olds-black slacks, black blouse ,black cape and smart looking black fedora-! The children were thrilled when they spotted me coming down the hallway---and when we went into the classroom, following 30+ Good Morning hugs and opening exercises,I grabbed my blackboard pointer ,{my "sword,"} jumped up in my chair, and sang OUT in the Night , When the Full Moon Is Bright,Comes a Horseman Known as Zorro!!!" Now how does this relate to Adam? Well, just look at him! And when I do, I see me standing on that chair, glancing down at those giggling, entranced weasles who I bet will never forget the initial consonant sound of Z !!!!!
