Totally OT, but if anybody is interested in Janis Joplin, PBS has a movie/documentary up online that's almost 2 hrs long of her short life. It's an American Masters special that was aired a few weeks ago. After May 31st it will be pulled and then sold as a DVD. I loved Janis back when I was in college. I enjoyed watching this, even tho I knew it would be sad. Anyway, I recommend it if you have a spare 1hr 45 minutes. www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/janis-joplin-watch-full-film/7272/Thanks for the link, bamafan...I will watch it. Janis's Pearl album is the first I can truly claim to have literally WORN out....then replaced with cassette...then with cd! I used to sit cross-leeged on a huge orange cushion, singing along to Cry Baby till I had little voice left...then I would head into Bobby Macgee and for fun, Mercedeez Benz...complete with giggle...

Today I tried to vote again for the Country Music Awards and this time instead of just doing nothing the website told me politely that I needed to verify my email I did and voted without any problems. So to everyone who didn't vote yet and wants to: Go Vote! It's easy now. www.cmt.com/cmt-music-awards/vote/cmt-performance-of-the-year.jhtml#

Good memories: the time we saw that spiked jacket for the first time, I was there... Amsterdam, the 538 radio event. And if all goes well (help me hope!) I will see it again next week! And the man that wears it too Cologne, here I come!!

When I was in college I was fortunate enough to see her perform many times at the old Fillmore in San Francisco, Winterland, and the Avalon Ballroom. peace&love

For all the Janis lovers, my favorite book about her is Buried Alive by Myra Friedman. It was out of print, I think, for a while but Amazon got it in. Heartbreaking story, more so if you are unfortunate enough to have been close to someone who was addicted.
I have just been watching the performances from TV this year and Alisan has done some beautiful work, some not so great. Her song tonight, I think it is Down That Road, is beautiful and she co-wrote it. Heard snippet on Itunes along with her duet with Christine (also lovely) and she is singing Somewhere from West Side Story. She deserves to win, JMHO. On her strongest competitor's Itunes page is an endorsement from some Christian Church organization plus he is country and Blake is his mentor. Alisan will need all the help she can get.
