No, I really thought about it for a while. I have tried really hard to get every single Adam look in a banner. And that is def a "look." I am not sure what I think about it. *** I work in consumer neuroscience and specialize in emotion detection, most scholars do not believe in this "lizard brain" theory -- and brain function is far more complex and entangled that this theory accounts for. The limbic system in a human brain does play a role in survival emotions -- fear, anger and sexual responses. the limbic system is responsible for controlling various functions in the body. Some of these functions include interpreting emotional responses, storing memories, and regulating hormones. The limbic system is also involved in sensory perception, motor function, and olfaction. But the prefrontal cortex (which lizards do not have) also plays a role. It is not as simple as was once believed. More info: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20331363[Can't believe I posted a citation to an academic paper but brains and emotion to me are what the voice is to Cassie.!!] THIS is one of the reasons I had to come out of lurk-land. What a great conversational turn! Q3 I enjoyed your reference although I can't say I fully understood it. Reminded me of other studies about the compassionate vs competitive brain...I won't get political so I'll just say that if those studies are right then Adam and many folks here seem to have very large "anterior cingulate gyruses." And yes, I'm sure Adam's cingulate gurus is sexier and larger than the rest of ours.π Ha!! Love it. This is actually serious. I measure people's responses to advertising -- what they look at, how long, do their pupils dilate (arousal), heart rate changes, perspiration, brain activity and so on. I would love to measure a few people when Adam is singing. I think there is something in his voice that cause some involuntary biometric and neuro effects. I think I would get some eyes that look like this...

My analysis of today's photo is that Adam is very engaged in a conversation. It is a good conversation that he is enjoying. His eyes look lit! The reason it looks "odd" is simply because he was caught "mid word" for this photo/screen cap. He is in the process of saying a word that probably starts with an "F" (from his mouth, tongue, teeth placement.)

Got to agree. When I saw it, I wondered what went through Q3's thought process when choosing it. Was it just a quick photo grab or is she trying to show all aspects of Adam. I was also trying to decide what is that expression on his face. Probably way too much analysis on my part! lol I've been reading a book about how we are still largely controlled by our ancient "lizard" brains which sometimes lets real emotions flash across the face. No, I really thought about it for a while. I have tried really hard to get every single Adam look in a banner. And that is def a "look." I guess you can't believe everything you read! The book was "7 secrets of persuasion : leading-edge neuromarketing techniques to influence anyone" by James. C. Crimmins.

I think I would get some eyes that look like this... I'm sure you would! Boy that would be fun to study, especially across cultures. I'm intrigued by common involuntary reactions, like "awww" and hands jumping to cover our mouths when we're worried. Your job must be very interesting...and potentially very influential. (The anterior cingulate gyruses thing is serious, too, btw. It opposes a large amygdala--links inappropriate for this safely unbiased site, I think.) Now of course we're begging the question of other biological effects of Adam's singing. PS. Nice to meet you!
