Yes, yes, yes! Adam visited my absolute favourite musical in the world yesterday: "Tanz der Vampire"! I#ve seen it 7 times in the last 16 years, and it's always great!! Last time I thougt, Adam would love it, but that he wouldn't be able to understand it. The original version is in German, there was one in English on Broadway some years back, which flopped, because the musical was drastically changed. Apparently a vampire is a very different figure in American culture (literature ect.). I learnt about that back in University and found the differences in the figure of a vampire in literature in different cultures are surprisingly big. One of the main characters is a vampire. And as that a very complex character with emotions and feelings in the origninal musical. He sings a great long melancholic ballad. The director (or whoever was in charge on Broadway) changed that role completely and made in ridiculous. The characters lost all their depth. They changed the ending and deleted scenes ect. That didn't work and the musical didn't last long in the US. In Germany it's one of the most successful musicals. It's the only one, that even has a rabid fangroup and it's own fanforum (don't know, if it still exists) with many, many people, who go more than once. By now, it's been translated in many languages and I saw that they play it successful in Prague and France for example. It's all in all a funny, sometimes creepy, clever, dark rock opera with music from Jim Steinman. And it has short appearances of a gay vampire in it (the son of the duke), that are absolutely great! Did I say, I love that musical? So, I just hope, Adam liked it!
