Liverpool last night was great!
Was a little concerned that the crowd was slow to warm up for the first few songs - Adam tried to gee them up. But boy! did they get into it....
Everyone standing before it was over - right up to the rafters.
Stood near the B stage and the crowd there was wild right from the start. Couldn't get there until about 7.30 when the floor was pretty full but amazingly still found a gap just one person back from the barrier. We asked a large group if we could sneak through into the little gap they'd left and they were charming.....so lucky.
(I say this every time but Liverpudlians are among my favourite people on this earth. Very direct, no nonsense, call a spade a spade - but always so kind and helpful and warm. The staff at the Echo Arena must be among the best trained and proactively helpful anywhere).
Adam seemed a little uncomfortable for the first few songs - only real fans would notice - perhaps some technical issues but it soon passed.
Funny moments - when the crowd went ahead and sang the whole of I Want to Ride my Bicycle leaving Adam stranded....no idea how it built but everyone enjoyed the moment.
Also - may not be captured on video - but at the end of the drum battle, Roger turned and held out his hand towards Tyler in a gesture of praise...which turned into a middle finger as the applause grew.
Brian definitely had moments of indicating that he was very tired. Wiping his brow and hanging his head a little - but his performance was great. Strangely we realised that the younger crowd may not have known the words to the Beatles song he sang (I think he did that last time in Liverpool - I may be wrong....) but us oldies made up for it.
And Brian's hair was super-amazing! Must have had some special treatment....it was extra full and glowing!
Adam hit all the right notes, in very way - we were just feet away from the UP and STL vocals....the crowd responded with cheers; I was glad they recognised the magnitude of what they were hearing.
The sound quality was excellent but I suddenly thought how great it would be to hear him singing opera - without all the instrumental noise and the electronic amplification and the cheering....just his voice....on peak form in perfect circumstances... for simply his voice.
I wish he would do it - even if just once....
Talked to a few people as we left and nothing but great things to say about Adam even though they were mostly long term Queen fans. They accept Adam as the piece in the jigsaw that makes it all happen. It's so simple - without Adam, none of this now. Why would real Queen fans not appreciate that?
I concentrated on the bows at the end to gauge the levels of applause - and in our section, we were all absolutely sure that Adam's applause was louder and rowdier than that for Brian and Roger.
Love them all but that made me happy.
