Well, now see...if I had known New Eyes was foreplay, I might have listened to it a lot differently I only took Adam's quote from The Daily Star, as posted on page 2, but from my point of view he sure knows how to create anticipation "Velvet" might just be a HOTTEST album yet!! In the meantime, I hope you'll enjoy listening to "New Eyes" "differently" " 'It used to be about hitting them with your biggest song you had for the lead single, but I like to mould it a bit more now... like foreplay,' Adam cheekily explained when asked about the deference between the track and the rest of his album at a secret playback in London."

I think this part at 3:50 explains about artists in the age of spotify. What songs that weren't singles would you have liked to have more people hear? When the only way to get music, other than a few songs on the radio, was to buy records or cds then deep cuts actually got heard. You played the album from start to finish unless you eventually did your own mix tape because it was a pain to get up and change the record for each particular song. But now if you put out an album your current fans will listen start to end, a few new fans will too, but the bread and butter who came over to listen to that greatest latest single, what satisfaction do they get playing to the end of the record? None . By putting out non singles but making them part of the storyline (FS & NE both) then he engages more people to hear the deep cuts. And so the roll out has changed from the single carrying the album and switched to the album pushing the singles. They've got some great timelines to work with right now. Can a show spend 10 minutes on just Adam? Well yeah, he's fronting a sold out arena & stadium world tour where the big question is when is it going to come here because you really really can't leave us out. He's got two (that's right) two video bits he brings with him, one on NE and the other on Playmobil. And he's not putting singles out to send to radio, he's putting out singles & a video multi-part music vid to give a through point and something different to talk about. It's not a put it out to radio and the next interview comes if the single did good and doesn't come if the single tanked. Nope, this song is part of a big picture, it's a teaser, you don't want to miss out on the full story, you need me back to talk about the next installment. It's going to be fun watching the roll out.

Two that are missing from NE ... i t has no hook and it does not fit the CHR or HAC flow. It was not released to go to radio...and it seemed likely there were V tracks designed for CHR radio. Now that is confirmed. The chorus to NE got me hooked right away.. it wouldn't be considered a hook? What are V tracks? A hook is a mnemonic (something easy to remember). A hook is something in a song that you sing along with the first time you hear a song, even if you don't like the artist.
From Wiki:
A hook is a musical idea, often a short riff, passage, or phrase, that is used in popular music to make a song appealing and to "catch the ear of the listener". The term generally applies to popular music, especially rock, R&B, hip hop, dance, and pop.
Think about Robin Thicke -- "Blurred Lines" -- no one really liked him, he was pretty much unknown, but that song was a radio monster.
Or "Uptown Funk."
These song have hooks.
Hard to find a top 10 on CHR that does not have a hook.
It also has to work with the flow of the music on the radio or playlist. Genre and tempo are not what matter but if a song is way out of the sonic mainstream it won't get a lot of airplay.

V = Velvet. I was on my phone and hate typing on it. Sorry for the unexplained V.

I pretty much consider "radio friendly" to be some mysterious concept that God only knows what it entails. Especially if you consider some of the crap that's actually playing on radio. God and Post Malone who has been constantly on the radio for a very long time. And has two top 10 tracks.
Here are the current Top 10 songs in the US -- Billboard Hot 100. Not really crap -- may not be what you want to listen to but there is some decent music on CHR radio right now. JMHO YMMV 1 Lil Nas X Featuring Billy Ray Cyrus Old Town Road 1 LAST WEEK 1 PEAK POSITION 13 WEEKS ON CHART Awards Biggest gain in digital sales Gains in performance
2 Billie Eilish Bad Guy Billboard Hot 100 3 Khalid Talk
4 Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber I Don't Care
5 Jonas Brothers Sucker
6 Post Malone & Swae Lee Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse)
7 Post Malone Wow.
8 Sam Smith & Normani Dancing With A Stranger
9 DaBaby Suge
10 Ava Max Sweet But Psycho
