Sigh..... So the conclusion is:
Being active on social media helps a career BUT MAYBE NOT. An indie label can give you more freedom to promote and do as you please BUT MAYBE NOT. A really good song will have a good chance of being played on the radio BUT MAYBE NOT. A lousy song will never make it to radio BUT IT MIGHT. A major label will work very hard to do its best to get you a hit BUT MAYBE NOT.
Every link in the chain that gets music made, from writer to radio, wants to make money off a song. Every step in that direction is a risk, and often an expensive risk.
A singer who has had a massive hit will get more songs played on radio regardless of their quality. Once a major fan base latches onto someone, they will hang on to that person.
Adam has never had a MASSIVE hit. He's had mid-level success with a few songs. We're here hoping he can move up the ladder with his own music. The rules, if there are any, are not clear, fair or consistent. That's the reality of it.

Jablea, I was typing my latest post as you were posting yours. I totally agree. We love our fan community. Sometimes the music gets lost in all the other things we love about Adam. He has opened our eyes to many topics and we love discussing those things, too. He's a smart, interesting person.
We could all probably do more to promote Adam ourselves. We can stream and play and view and buy his music, old and new. Your idea about sharing our "superpowers" is a good. We can try to keep the song at the forefront while sharing.
Whatever it takes. I don't follow anyone else on SM, but other fan bases find ways to keep the excitement and exposure high. Gotta ask Adam some stuff.

Mods, there is a strange post (an ad?!) in the "Birthday Greetings"-thread! Thanks for the heads up. Spam. I have deleted.

He needs to be engaged on social media even more BECAUSE he is an indie, and not for us, the hardcore fans who bother to hang out here anyway. Imo it is needed to attract and KEEP the possible NEW fans. The fact that the number of his followers does not budge in the last 7-8 years is not an accident. I haven't followed his twitter followers very much, but have noticed a steady increase in his instagram followers. And isn't IG more popular than twitter now?

I do think it would feel awful to concentrate every day on "how many new followers do I have?". It would drive you bonkers in no time and is something we tell regular peeps not to do. Someone earlier said they followed an artist who posted 20 times a day, omg, I'd unfollow in a hurry and worry about the artist's sanity. So what makes for a committed fan? I guess for me it's not Instagram, it's not Twitter, it's not Facebook. So hmmm, a 10 year fan that can care less about being on the traditional social channels. I seem to be here for the fan community. What? not the artist? Yes. And I feel we have a long way to go in increasing our community instead of pushing Adam to increase his followers. Do we (royal we) ever hold our own twitter parties? Do we advertise the various fan communities like Adamtopia so people can find us? We do have some coordination such as streamers - would new Adam followers know about that? - No. Does anyone engage new followers - hey come join us? Not much. Do twitter folks talk about Adam? yes but mostly only to other known Adam followers. #superpower seems like an easy one to engage other social media folks - What's your superpower - or for those down in the dumps - have you listed to Feel Something? it might make you feel something. I think we are very insular - we only listen to Adam music, we only talk to Adam fans. Just IMO When I first started searching for Adam in 2015 I found the streams very quickly. I know I listened to a few already when the Frankfurt concert came and he was sick. I was listening to that concert already and I only got to know him on 30 January 2015. So if you really search for him you will found the stuff that makes this community the way it is. I found another forum before I found Adamtopia though, but liked this one better as the other one didn't embed the tweets and stuff so it's less visual. I think the other forum got me to the streams as well. I also found Marie's forum pretty quickly. I am not sure how that works now though. I know we have a lot of visitors on this forum every day. I often see 70-80 people viewing the site. When you go to the homepage you can see that. Right now there are 87 guests viewing this forum. In the last 24 hours 1,500 guests were here. So I guess it's quite a lot of people who find this forum. I don't know how they find the forum, but a lot of them might be here regularly.
