Thinking out loud - pertains to resale tickets for the Bowery Ballroom
I noticed on yesterday's thread that Phronni7 said she hated eventbrite because she got scammed by something listed on the site.
I was curious so I searched for complaints about eventbrite. There were tons of them. There are lots of legit things on eventbrite, but apparently it is easy for scammers and scalpers to use it as well.
This didn't necessarily apply directly to recent ticket sales for Adam shows, but it made me wonder about ticket problems when I read the following two items.
I noticed that Bamafan posted a tweet from Dianakat13 that linked to latimes article about how the Black Keys had the tickets when they played the Wiltern be ineligible for transfer to reselling sites. A large number of fans didn't realize there would be a problem and bought tickets on resell sites. When they arrived they learned their tickets were not valid. (So why didn't the resellers screen out these tickets?). Unclear whether people would be refunded.
Then I noticed a tweet in the list below the thread that relates to potential ticket problems. PattiHum linked to Playingwithu where she had written a thread that said, "Eventbrite doesn't use anything like recaptcha to ensure that it's a person and not a bot buying tickets. Clearly the bot building ticket scalpers have figured this out and taken advantage of it."
Eventbrite answered her: "Hey @playingwithu, Eventbrite orders are assigned to the name and email address of the buyer. We don't support ticket resale, so the only way to change ownership of tickets is via an official transfer from the organizer. Which prevents bots from being used for scalping."
There was some more discussion on Playingwithu's twitter in which she said (paraphrasing) her DH said one doesn't know how many tickets were put on eventbrite. Maybe some were distributed by Citi or the venue. Maybe Bowery Ballroom had some to put on resale. So maybe resale tickets are legit.
I'm not going to this show. I'm just putting this all out so that people who have resale tickets to the show at the Bowery Ballroom can decide if they want to double check if resale tickets will be accepted. Perhaps asking the Bowery Ballroom, since they use eventbrite for ticket sales, would be a place to start.
I don't mean to be alarmist. Just thinking a double check on this might be wise. Hope there is no real problem.
peace&love
