Shape Up 2012 – TrespassingWell we did this last year and I lost and have kept off (yeah that keeping off is the important part) 5 pounds. I still need to lose more and so I think it’s time to begin again. Our final weigh in for this round will be Trespassing release date of Tuesday March 20th and since we’ll all be too busy that day for a final weigh-in we’ll make everything on Mondays. So starting Monday Jan 2nd thru Monday March 19th that is……. 12 Mondays. If you didn’t participate last year don’t worry, we make things really simple. We talk about everything new age, old fashioned, recipes, exercise, supplements, you name it. And best of all you can still join even if you don’t want to lose weight, that’s why we call it “shape-up” because maybe your goal is just getting 15 minutes of exercise in every day. Some FAQSThis thread is in the public area of the board so don’t post things you don’t want others to know I’ll put up a daily idea post just to help keep the conversation going Most of us don’t post actual weight but track the amount lost instead This starting post will change as we go along to include better instructions, links to important places (like our recipe thread), and usually a list of those participating Yes, we have you throw your name in the ring. Family can’t help you if we don’t know you are trying. I will post each Monday in the news thread to remind you to weigh-in or “check-in” as we call it since not everyone wants to lose weight. This time in addition to tracking weight goals I would also like to track daily eating and exercise goals and to do that every week we’ll give ourselves a plus each day for meeting our goal and post them along with our weight loss each Monday. Check-in should be somewhat in this form – note you can make and report on as many goals as you would like: Jablea goal -10 so far -2 Exercise TW 6+ Eating This Week 4+ Cheerleaders welcomed and encouraged We do relate things to Adam and with a new single out don’t be surprised if we create a spin club and/or add club 1st Check-in is Monday Jan 2nd - You can join at any time – just set a goal(s) for the amount of time we have left. To join, reply to this thread. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc518/chaphot/Shape Up/ropejumping.gif[/img] i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc518/chaphot/Shape Up/hulahoop.gif[/img] i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc518/chaphot/Shape Up/treadmill.gif[/img] i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc518/chaphot/Shape Up/d_training.gif[/img] i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc518/chaphot/Shape Up/liftweight2.gif[/img]................... i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc518/chaphot/Shape Up/hamwheel.gif[/img] The exercise smiles above aren't in our board smile box yet but you can use them if you copy the url and put them in an image code.

Friday - Glam Shapers 1st Week Spin Team
For Adam's 1st week of spins we have been given these numbers
US – 54 Canada – 40
US Top40 - 24 plays US HAC - 29 plays US Rhythmic - 1 play
Canada HAC - 26 plays Canada Top40 - 14 plays
So what to do with them?
Let's use them for some goals. For example I'm going to use the Canada total plays of 40 for my ounces of water. Yes that's only 5 cups but I think I'll start there. Some of you may be able to make the US spin total for 7 cups.
Then for the US breakdown 24/29/1 I'm going to work on 24 pushups, 29 crunches, and 1 daily dog walk.
Haven't decided on the Canadian spins of 26/14 yet and I may not use them.
Everybody who wants to join me on the First Week Spin team is welcome and can decide how to best use the numbers for themselves. International members are also free to use their local numbers if they would like. You can also join up at any time.

I am checking in today, Friday, December 30. My husband and I start our diet on Monday. We are following a diet called the Hilton Head Diet. It is a very old diet book, and we followed it about 20 years ago and we both lost weight. I lost about 20 pounds on it. Of course at the time I wasn't as overweight as I am now. I am also going to take African Mango which is something Dr. Oz recommended in his article "Dr. Oz's RX for extreme weight loss." It appears in the magazine "First For Women",the January 2, 2012 edition on sale at your grocery stores now.
I started some heart medicine this year and it is suppose to regulate my heart beat. I think that is one of the reasons I have been gaining so much. I will have to try to work around that. I go to the heart doctor the middle of this month and I want to go off it. I will wait and see what she says.
I should lose about 70 pounds but I am going to aim for 50 total. I am older and it is harder for me to lose since I no longer have any hormones. I have trouble exercising because I also have arthritis. I have a walking tape which I watch and will try to walk one mile a day in my living room. I also have a weight lifting tape for seniors which I will also attempt.
My husband has less to lose than I do so I am sure he will stop dieting sooner than I will. But it is helpful if I can cook the same meals for both of us. It is when I have to make his special meals that I fall off diets. He is Italian and pasta and meatballs is what he loves.
I have to get in shape for the tour this summer. I need to work up some endurance if we are going to start traveling and going to concerts. It takes me a week to recover from the concerts we have been attending.
Best of luck to all of us. My name is Kathy. I live in Florida. I will talk to you all Monday.

Okay. I told myself I was going to get serious "after the holidays" and then the universe sent me this challenge. Making a commitment to others has worked for me in the past so please sign me up. I just checked my gorgeous (distracting) Cassie Calendar and see that we have 11 full weeks for the Jan 2 to Mar. 19 shape up period. I'm saying I'll try for 2 pounds a week, plus a little more the first week: My goal = 25 pounds. I plan to walk 5+ days a week around a community walking "track" and do some of the Nautilus equipment along the track at least every other day. I'll try to play the numbers game too but I hope the spins get to be so many that it will get difficult. Anyway, I'm a statistics person, so that sounds like fun. I had a delicious sweet potatoe salad over the holidays that is very low cal and I'll share that next week. Thank you, Jablea and Q3. Hope we get lots of participants. This could be fun. Okay, Monday morning this is me:

I'm in! Professional yo-yo dieter here. I'm at a high on weight, so it's time to take some off. I tend to lose 50-90 lbs every 3-5 years..... yep, that's one heck of a yo-yo I'm on....kinda like the roller coaster ride of stanning the man! Haven't worked out specific goals, but I'll go with 8toinfinity's 25 pounds overall....2lbs/week is realistic. The spin challenge is kinda scary tho. Can't imagine what I'd do when his spins get over 1000! I'll be watching for ideas here and come up with something by Monday.

I'm in! This is going to be fun. I had also planned to start my diet on Monday (like every year.. ) and what would be better than do it with you guys! My goal is also 25 pounds. We use kilograms here, but I think it's possible to change my scale to "pound mode" too. It might be easier to keep on track that way. My second goal is to exercise four times a week. 2x gym and 2x zumba, sh'bam, spinning or jogging.

I'd like to join too. I've always loved sports, but unfortunately I've always loved food too. So after several years at the university having less time to exercise I definitely need to lose some weight. The 25 pounds sounds reasonable goal so I pick that too.
My other goal is for jogging. I'd like to be able to jog at least 6 miles during the spring and half marathon before next Autumn. Right now my longest jogging round is about 4,5 miles and the basic round is about 2,5 miles.

Hey Jablea, count me in again. I haven't exercised regularly in months and I am eating everything in sight lately. Last year was really helpful, but maintenance has been an issue (haven't had any kale since springtime and my Vitamix blender makes a mean chocolate shake ). But starting Monday I'm all in!

I am in. . I want to lose a size, but more importantly get my blood sugar down, and exercise more, to increase my energy level. Need to be in shape for tour road tripping, dancing and berting! I can't wait to see Adam live. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and music filled 2012 !

Jablea,
this time count me in. Last year I could not really commit to anything. In the end I have had four surgeries in the past 12 months, 3 of which were abdominal surgeries. So, often exercise was not even possible or at least I did not have the energy to get serious about anything. But weight is out of control and I am eating too much.
I love to cook and this holiday season was bad for me, I still did ok at Thanksgiving, but it went downhill from there, not even sure why. I also had to travel a lot, which did not help. It is time to shape up, so this thread today came as a God sent.
I want to try to exercise at least 4 times a week and start a food journal and keep it going, especially watching portion sizes. Just getting honest with what I am eating is probably going to get things moving in the right direction again.
Not going to set a weight goal. I am going to celebrate with you guys whenever a few pounds come off and I will dig into what is going on, when they don't. But I really want to focus on overall healthy lifestyle choices rather than just a weight target.
Thanks for setting this up and I am glad to have company to share misery or success, as they may come. Getting an album as reward sounds like the best gift ever. I wanna be able to dance to his music, not sit around and huff and puff every 3 minutes.

Ok. I'll probably regret this but...I'm in. Dieting and exercise are new to me. For the first 30 some years of my life I could eat anything, never exercise, and still be a bean pole. That changed with kids and reaching 40.
Watching what I eat is new and hard for me. I find the effort-not-translating-to-the-scale quite depressing. In the last few months though, I have found a compromise involving a balance of restrictive eating when I can, and normal eating when I must. Some days are great, others I am just really hungry or crave chocolate. I don't beat myself up for not following a plan to the tee but I seem to be slowly fitting better in my jeans without the micromanagement. I will stick to this mindset--without dragging the evil scale back out--but try to be more motivated thanks to the Adam Diet.
My real goal is to exercise. I truly despise it! We have a dusty elliptical, which I refer to as "the torture machine". But, my goal will be to clean it off and go on it at least 4 times a week. If I loose nothing but stick with the exercising, then I will be happy--and healthy.
Adam will be my real motivation here. He has changed me in so many ways already. Changing me in a physical, detectable way only makes sense. I know he has struggled with weight and not wanting to exercise. If he knew we were doing this, I think he would be cheering us on!

Saturday – Water Works I’ve set my goal at the 5 cup (40 ounces) level (Canada 1st week spins), I know that’s short of the “8 cup” level all the diet gurus recommend but dang, that’s a lot and I’m hoping other stuff like milk and rootbeer will add the extra 3. So I’ve measured my water bottles and picked out two that add up to 5 cups without me having to measure. Fill them both up in the morning and do my best to empty them by evening. Welcome all newbies and waving at those of you returning.

Count me in! My goal is to lose 10 pounds.
I didn't do well at all last time but I think (hope) I have more willpower this year.
Exercising is not my favorite thing but I need to start. Will make my exercise goal vague/easy for now, it will just be to exercise more.
