Okay, I'm starting to prepare for this. I've been in a book group since before Oprah started her's even. Since Adam, I barely get the books finished because I'd rather be on the computer. I just looked it up and found my next book is available as an audio download from the library. I'm going to put it on my ipod and make a rule that I have to walk, clean or do yardwork whenever I listen. In other words MOVE!
My montra for Jan. ....MOVE MORE, EAT LESS!

Irish1139, I’ll look forward to hearing more about the Hilton Head diet. I hate separate meals for everyone in the family too, maybe we can strategize ways around that. I’ve got a book called “Outsmarting the Midlife Fat Cell” that I’ll look thru again. I think it’s main thing was exercise though.
8toinfinity, you’ve got the weather on your side. Looking forward to your sweet potato recipe. And I like your motto.
Spiffysmile, we need to find you a lifestyle diet, I’m thinking the spin count might turn into minutes or seconds lol.
Phishfood, what’s sh’bam? I’m thinking something like belly dancing where you say “sh’bam” on each hip thrust. lol

Sunday - Setting Goals
You all have already got this down pat I can see so I won't be preaching to the choir. For me and I think for many of you it's not the big "how much" but the smaller "hows" that are going to make a difference. So that's why I'm looking at rating my followthrus everyday with the plus system.
For the "how" goals I've set so far, water, pushups, situps, dog walk I got 3 out of 4 today. My knee is killing me this week so I didn't get the walk in (I did throw the ball though). I don't know if I'm going to be a pencil pusher or an excel junkie to keep track.
How is everyone going to measure their success? Some people like the day to day and others only feel comfortable with a weekly.

I made two charts to hang on the wall. Right now, I have the first three months on the front page. January through March, each monday, we will enter the weight and show pounds lost. I would show you but I don't know how to copy it here. It is on my computer. If someone would tell me how, I would download it.
If anyone wants a copy of my diet, I am going to try and put it on the computer, and I will send it to you if you want to send me an e-mail address or a fax number. I would be willing to fax it to you. I will work on getting a readable copy on my computer today. Get back to you all tomorrow.

Supposed to be low 80's then mid 70's. So no excuses for me getting out to exercise. 8-) (When we have extra nice weather I always think of Sauli. He seems to love the sun so much so I'm happy. But I feel like warning him that there is definitely rain still ahead and that most of us hope for lots of it, 'cause that means snow pack in the mountains and no water shortages in the summer.) Jablea: Will you be posting new stats for us to use every Monday or should we use the currently posted stats to incorporate into our goals?

Hi everybody - count me innnnnn!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
Phew, to start this thing off I just did 10 mediocre, half-ass pushups. Sad to say, but I have no strength at all and would like gain some strength and lose 15 pounds. That's my goal. Any more than that, this tired old body would look a little prune-y.
Like some ladies on the board, no hormones for me either and am losing muscle mass as time goes by. Also have ostheoporosis, so I can't do any high impact exercises. Taking meds for that so hope I'm getting some bone mass back. History of surgeries, stroke, cancer, heart disease, lung problems, meds for all that, etc. has taken a toll on my skeleton and boy is it hard to stay strong.
I will do whatever it takes to get lean and strong, and merely admitting this gives me encouragement I need. Sometimes, being a part of a group who is working toward the same goal is all we need to succeed. We can all use a little team spirit, can't we?
On a normal work day, I'm at the office from 9-10 hours so will make it a point to put in as much low impact exercise as I can. All I need to do is stay away from snacks (my weakness), drink more water, and "stay focused on the prize" which is better health and strength.
Who's with me? Now, I'm gonna try and do a few sit-ups. Does anybody have an exercising smilie? That would be da bomb.

OKAY - I'm in too - ... before I set any goals I want to share with you a PRAYER my sister sent: Dear God, My prayer for 2012 is for a fat bank account & a thin body.
Please try not to mix them up like you did last year.
AMEN! So if all goes right I'll have plenty of dosh to attend lots of Adam concerts and a fit, healthy body to stan hard. YAY !! But on the more serious side ... I have already started the weight loss 6 weeks ago - my goal was to lose 5 kilos (approx 10 lbs) by the end of January ... I'm having some surgery then and every kilo dropped and fitness gained should help in the recovery . I have lost 4 k's so am really happy and motivated to keep going. Every step (change) has been small but for me significant .. 1. I have started doing "scheduled" exercise = tried treadmill (hated it) .. walking the dog was not enough and too sporadic .. but I am in the pool doing aquarobics 4 days a week (easy right now as it is summertime) 2. My biggest change in diet is portions (much less) but more frequent eating (grazing) and searching out low fat alternatives. Phishfood .. I am closer to your time zone so maybe we'll be able to hook up in live time once and a while Jablea thank you for arranging / organizing and inspiring !

Monday – 1st Official Check/Weigh-In Today is the day to get naked and step on the scale. Well that’s how I do it anyway. Ewww I know, heehee. I lost a pound just by drying my hair today so I figure the best way to be accurate is to always weigh the same thing at the same time, which for me is before breakfast. So everyone check in by posting your goal and your progress. Since we are just starting most of our progress might be 0 and that’s ok. So pretty much the same thing everyone has been doing, I just bug you to do it every Monday even if you’ve already posted. If you are not doing a weight goal that's fine, just tell us your plans and how you are doing. Checking in__ Jablea (goal 15, thisweek 0, total 0)
Jojo, I wish I could still play sports. Becoming an old mother put the end to a lot of my activities and I couldn’t jog to save my life but I’m looking forward to cheering you on for a half marathon.
Alison, welcome back. I try broiling some kale every once in a while but I still need some other things to do with it. The last bunch I got wound up in the rabbits.
Nocturnal, do you have to test your blood sugar every day or have they just told you that you need to watch it? I bought new pants so I have to lose a size too.
Craazyforadam, I didn’t hear about your surgeries dang. I had just one and it wasn’t on my belly. I almost always lose weight when traveling for vacation but not if it’s to relative’s houses or for work.

I haven't been eating right lately, or exercising enough. Trying to lose 20 lbs, and get fit.

Happy New Year!!
First weigh-in done in the morning. OMG!! Ok.. I know, I've been eating a lot of chocolate and other goodies during holidays, but THAT MUCH!! My starting weight is a little bit more than I expected.. :-[
Goal 25, this week 0, total 0
But here we go.. This is my first day on diet and I'm so addicted to sugar!!! My tactic is to avoid carbohydrates to get rid of this addiction. First few days are from hell, but then it's get easier.. Hopefully.
Today I'm going to zumba, so my fat ass gets some exercise. ;D

Phishfood, what’s sh’bam? I’m thinking something like belly dancing where you say “sh’bam” on each hip thrust. lol Sh'bam is LesMills' dance class. It's really fun!! Dance moves are set to old and new dance music hits. It almost feels like you would be dancing in the nightclub. So it's not belly dancing, but it sounds good too. Hello Ladyoz! (waving back) (no idea how to put that waving dude here.. )
