Hiya, strangers (but not!) Finished a hard day of pounding the pavement and am rewarding myself with reading a WHOLE THREAD!
No way to catch up with all the squeeing I've probably missed, so just a few things:
WELCOME! TO ALL DELURKERS! Seems like everytime I find a minute to poke my head into a thread lately I see new posters--which is GREAT! HAPPY, HAPPY (BELATED BIRTHDAYS) TO ALL THE PEEPS I'VE MISSED IN PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS!! I hope each of you had very special/fun celebrations!Speaking of which, I got an early BD present myself last night--the GNT dvd!!! OMG, even BETTER, I got to watch it for the first time on a bigscreen TV with Bose headphones!
I was totally resigned to being happy with what's on internet, didn't feel deprived at all, BUT IT IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN I ALREADY THOUGHT IT WAS!! I FUCKING LOVE EVERY SECOND OF IT!!
I sat one foot away from the screen and felt ALMOST as excited as the times I was actually there last summer. The sound was fantastic, I liked the editing, I just don't have a SINGLE complaint.
(Except, of course, that it was over too soon. WLL encore would've special icing, but hey, not complaining.)
I really love FYE--and not just in an "it's okay for a first effort, BUT..." way. I think it is a great album. I am self-aware enough to realize that subjectively speaking, my love for it is due to the fact that it just filled a musical void in me--the voice, its eclectic nature, the joyful feel, the alternative to the mostly older music/artists I'd been listening to. Whatevs...I love it and I always will.
And I was TRULY sad after my last GN concert because I knew I'd never see that particular extravaganza of showmanship live again. But THANKFULLY the GNT dvd makes up for that. I am so grateful that Adam made this happen.
The only problem I had with my first viewing of the dvd was that my son and his friend were there. I had to reign in my emotions (as much as I could) because I didn't want to embarrass my son in front of his friend. (They BOTH liked it, btw.)
I truly felt like crying (sorry, Bridgey, but happy tears are happy!) and dancing and squeeing and wished I could've expressed my inner monologue...which went something like this...
Oh, Voodoo, how sexy is this song?--ROF, I love you--Oh, look at the little glimpses of belly in SW--Oh, I love the interludes/friends' turns to shine--Oh, Adam, I love your dorky post-modern-lack-of-cynicism-infused patter about love--Oh, look at bb's willy making an appearance MOTHAFUCKAS--NOW JUMP!! etc., etc.
Enough already, but I
am a wee bit envious of those of you who have a chance to squee uninhibitedly in RL while watching it! I can only imagine how much fun that would be! Have fun Catz, and Mayumi's party, and any others attending these, because the only thing that would rank up there with watching/hearing Adam?...Doing it while in the company of other Atoppers in RL!
Sorry this is so long, I just had to share with people who get it!
AND one other thing--NONOTME, I really like your son's band (Dodos). Watched some vids/interviews and he is 1) a cutie 2) a fantastic drummer 3) articulate. Watched Seasons and Fools and really liked both very much. You and LYNNE must be so very proud of your sons. Too cool!
Oops, one more thing...did any of you who attended SXSW happen to see Bright Eyes (Conner Oberst's) two-hour set? If so, what did you think?
