First off, RCA cannot pay off Clearchannel, because there is no such thing as payola anymore. Clearchannel got heavily fined and has vowed not to be caught taking any money. Actually it is illegal to take payola. We all know the jingle balls, etc and radio concerts are payola, but in a different form. Adam did the tour the first time around and did everything right, but many stations did not play him. Adam is caught between a rock and a hard place becasue radio spins and rotation has a lot to do where sales are at on itunes, and requests from listeners. So if a song is not being spun, no exposure and no sales. Radio can play as dumb as they want and we as listeners can't do a thing. But if you have a few successful songs, that guarantees spins. Bruno had success, and every song he put out they played. Same with Katy Perry. OK, so no payola, but there has got to be a way to talk these PD's into playing that song, maybe their upper management bosses can come down on them to get the song in rotation. These PD's are not Gods, although I think some of them think they are. They are just people with their own ideas about what is popular. Perfect example, Adele, as has already been mentioned. What about that song "Fireflys" that made it to the top? What a silly little song that was, and a one hit wonder. There are lots of examples of atypical songs that made it to the top. Then here we have Adam's songs, that are really really good, and his voice is amazing, and they are not playing him. They are STUPID. NCOE should have been an instant hit, the perfect combo of writing/singing/production. Maybe the upper management of the BIG radio syndicates could come in and intervene. That would take some "smoozing" on the RCA upper management's part, but this is done all the time in other industries, just saying............ But, I really know nothing about Radio and play, just what I hear played, and JMHO. |

It's all in who you know, I guess. The plot thickens. I think it is the reverse for Randy and Mariah -- Randy is still in the mix because of Mariah. (RUMOR but seems consistent with Mariah's requests in the past. She only agreed to do the show IF Randy was still on the show.) I do not think that Seacrest has any influence on this -- aside from Idol, his big connections are to NBC/Universal (GE + Comcast). ** I am starting to think that the Idol Producers have talked to every possible musician and entertainer in the world about being a judge!! |

But most of us were being constrained by what RCA might do OR not think about it as a business decision. It is easy to pick their favorite song as a single is there are no consequences, or for fans to be "realistic" about RCA. I was trying to remove the constraints. IF I was CEO of RCA I would pick Trespassing and I would launch it with massive club events in the Top 20 Club metros -- around the world. And have a mega online event at the same time with live online video from all the clubs (free). Adam would perform a live concert, with a HQ Live Stream and Cable OnDemand. (affordable but not free). I would not focus on terrestrial radio at all. I would put the bulk of the promo dollars into online radio and streaming media. We are talking about RCA, though...IYKWIM. RCA isn't a leader in thinking outside of the box or in keeping up with the newest promo trends. >:( I love your ideas!  That was before they hired me!!  Seriously RCA -- please throw out the "rulebook" for Adam. It is not working!! |

I like some of the CEO ideas! It is much more fun that having to guess what wack scheme RCA will come up with this time. To Slapdash LaRue... That was not me writing the very insightful comments about Adam's music on last page of yesterday's thread. It was CrazyforAdam. I was trying to respond to her comments. Since I don't know how to make the comment box appear, I was trying to copy/paste & messed it up. At the very end of that post, you will see my comment/response to CrazyforAdam's post. Just don't want others to think I wrote the beautiful comments about the music.
