OK I had to go check now and found it: boygeorge þ@BoyGeorge Super sweet to get a DM from @adamlambert today!I was just catching up with today., bit late to the party They are both such consummate artists. I actually looked up definition of consummate and found the following. It certainly describes Adam. 1. having or revealing supreme mastery or skill 2. perfect and complete in every respect; having all necessary qualities 3. without qualification; used informally as intensifiers if you are interested and don't know Boy Gerorges Il Adore I found this. He wrote it about a friend. Its sad but beautiful. If its in the wrong thread or anything please feel free to delete. I am still new to this. www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DRccKeMq2JJU&rct=j&sa=X&ei=Y91bUJeLM66u0AGciIHACA&ved=0CCMQuAIwAA&q=boy+george+il+adore+video&usg=AFQjCNHlVEiZeu1z3i1kziNEqGO7D2pPdg&cad=rjaBeautiful and haunting.. I read this and went :dunno: IMHO a lot of words with little meaning. I usually think AnnPowers is a really good /writer. This article not so much.Could have stopped at One can't predict the future in terms of lasting music or lasting artists.

ETA: sorry, just couldn't resist.. (I know - the article is modestly looking at 2042 horizon only)

The newer generations do not know all that much about folk music. MANY people don't sing it at home anymore (in U.S.), and for many kids, the only place they hear folk songs is at school. I think that pop/rock/country have replaced folk songs as music of the people. Sort of sad. :-/

The article was a lot of hot air, but it actually IS interesting to see what is lasting and what isn't. Just for fun, I went and looked up to see what popular music composed in 1912 is still familiar to me today -- a century being a pretty good measure of "lasting" --
Alexander's Ragtime Band It's a Long Way to Tipperary Memphis Blues Melancholy Baby When Irish Eyes are Smiling Roamin' in the Gloamin'
What does this argue? Placement in Warner Brothers cartoons is the key to creating lasting music. LOL. Seriously, these tunes live on because of old movies and cartoons, interweaving them with other media that has a longer shelf life.

Nica -- I don't know classical well, but here were the big events of the year and I assume that is defined by lasting/international impact
- Premiere of Symphony No. 3, the Sinfonia espansiva, by Carl Nielsen - Premiere of Symphony No. 9 by Gustav Mahler - Premiere of Pierrot Lunaire by Arnold Schoenberg - Publication of Memphis Blues (WC Handy) and Dallas Blues (Hart Wand), which became blues/jazz standards
