Sorry, wal, recess for both kids today, just started reading the thread from the top.
"男人40一枝花" means "a man in his 40s is a flower in full bloom"! This ancient proverb has many different interpretations in the modern days, but the original and still widely used is to describe certain stage of a man's life: sprouting 20s, budding 30s and blossoming 40s, like a flower; in other words, a man reaches his full potential in every sense in his 40s.
Then, the full proverb, "女人30豆腐花(a woman in her 30s is a puddle of tofu), 男人40一枝花", adds another layer to the original meaning: men age better than women, and women start fading away in her 30s. As much as I like the whole Adam on Back picture the part that makes wade in the shallow end is this:  The tension in the hand, the veins.  I made exactly the same crop as you did!!!!  |

As much as I like the whole Adam on Back picture the part that makes wade in the shallow end is this: The tension in the hand, the veins. The original is a really wonderful picture - full of emotions. But my favourite part is this:  I am doing a lot of portrait shootings and it's a gift when you get a model that is actually able to relax to this point that Adam does.
