I just wanted to say: Hear, hear! then I remembered reading here: Here, here! so... which is it? Any linguists willing to solve the mystery for me? It is "hear hear." Derivation is from "hear him, hear him" in the old days of oratory -- hear what this brilliant speaker has to say. Mea culpa. I was the one who wrote here, here. Lol.
