Tuesday - Focus on Foods
Coffee - antioxidants Thyme - fights bacteria, used in newer acne cream Wild Salmon - omega 3 Kale - vitamin K for blood clotting and lutein for eye heath Avocados - antioxidant improves hormone function Basil/Mint - Chinese medicine for digestion and inflammation reduction Olives/Olive Oil - Mediterranean diet, reduce stroke risk Walnuts - antioxidants, vitamin E, omega 3
Had Salmon last night, tried to have Avocado but the one I bought wasn't ripe, had Walnuts in my lunch salad. We cook with Olive oil but probably need to start having it as salad dressing. Knew one guy who had cancer whom the doctors told to drink it straight from the bottle.
I thought my garage would be cool enough to store some extra veggies I had from the garden, after all the winter squash and potatoes were doing well just on the back porch. Nope. Well more for the compost pile I guess.

So I realize that, essentially, I pretty much slacked off for at least a month. I often find that I run out of gas at the end of the summer and this year was no exception. The pools close at the beginning of September, but we still have about six more weeks of extremely hot weather. This year was my first year to try farm baskets and they also became less interesting here at the end of the summer, and I haven't gotten them.
So. Here we are. This week I made a modest start back to my exercise program:
2x aerobics 3x walk
I still need to get back to my neck tractioning. Fortunately, I have had little problem with nerve pain since I left my old job and started self-employment. Funny about that.
So that I might be like rihannsu one day, I have started a new fitness walking program as of this week, called Texercise. It is a tiered fitness program with goals for both distance and time. The first tier has 12 phases. This week, I have been walking 1.25 miles and assessing how fast I can do it without too much huffing and puffing. It looks like I am starting out at about Phase 3 -- which means I can complete the distance in 26 minutes.
My next goal, therefore, is to go up to 1.5 miles and do it in 30 minutes. I will start on that goal this week.

That Texercise sounds like a great plan Juniemoon! Well, another up week for me but I'm not surprised. Out twice for dinner last week and then a 2 day conference with reception, breakfast/lunch/dinner, breakfast/lunch, plus more wine than I've drank in some time. I'm actually surprised I only gained a pound. Did walk most everywhere during the conference and had my regular 1 hour walks during the week while I was home as well. Will be heading out shortly for a walk. Next week I'm off for another family visit, so that will be even tougher. I keep getting close to the 50 lbs. but have been going up and down pretty much all of this month. Once through the family visit I really plan to get back to being more strict with myself especially with Christmas on the horizon. The date for my end goal is mid-February so not that far off anymore either, and I've got 10+ lbs to go, and the holiday season is not going to make that easy, because I know I'll veer off the plan. Still, happy I have reached this far and feeling a bit more fit as well. Hope everyone else is managing to stay motivated too. I'm really glad I found this thread as all of you have helped me a lot!

Thursday - Get to Sleep
chappy bringin' the lightning! lol, I'm peddling fast to keep the lights in the mansion powered up. This third year of the shape up thread has really been great despite the fact that I'm not able to keep up with you all. Two months to go.
For those who need to get some good shut eye after a late night of halloween partying try these foods:
Tart cherry juice - high melatonin content Chicken - high in tryptophan Salmon - the omega-3 can bolster proper levels of melatonin Pumpkin seeds - rich in magnesium, the lack of which has been blamed for disrupting sleep Lettuce - eat that salad at night - used in folk medicine to help sleep Walnuts - add to the salad, good mix of vitamins including melatonin Mile - the old standby with calcium and tryptophan
