While we're waiting for Adam's set, I just want to say I really felt the auction people were "shaming" the glamberts into bidding, and I felt really icky about it. I think Adam felt it was wrong, and therefore opened his speech by addressing his fans and encouraging them, so they won't feel bad about themselves. I don't think it was planned in advance.
