Re - the world going overly PC again on certain subjects, and hence Adam's rant.
I think it is just a new wave right now, for some reason. Look at the Washington Redskins, that topic is ooooold, but all of a sudden, it gets cooked up again, like there are no other problems in the world but the name of a football team. Then you have an famous person coloring her face dark and the drama in the media goes on for weeks. Sure, usually there is some insensitivity to start it, but then the reaction is just completely insanely overwrought. Don't even start with the Paula Deen saga....and on and on it goes with recent examples.
So, now some people start a discussion, well if face paint is racist, then why is wearing a geisha outfit not considered the same, and they manufacture a story with ratings and tons of attention out of it. Katy Perry just happened to get caught in it.
And somebody like Adam, who wants to dive into the pool of visual possibilities and imagery is left drained by the thought, of what the next group is, that might be taking offense to whatever look he happens to pick for himself. We are all just limiting our artists with all this critiquing about looks or lyrics or performance choices or whatever happens to be the topic of the day.
Overall, it is just too many people doing the talking and arguing and only a few putting themselves out there as artists or entertainers. You can argue every performance or in the larger world, every good deed to death, if you keep all this negativity flowing, and with our media world, the way it is, where everybody can have an opinion about everything, and many get paid to endlessly talk, whether they have something to say or not, there is just a lot of energy wasted on negative opinions.
And then, there is the whole topic of misinterpretations, as we seem to be having here right now, this morning:
One side, thinks that Adam intentionally sent meaningful messages, via his puppet. Kind of used the puppet to freely shout out, what otherwise was brewing inside of Adam, but could not be released. And others respond that no way is it that deep and Adam just was having some fun and invented a character with some fitting monolog for his puppet on the spot. No deeper relation to Adam's personal situation intended.
And look what ensues, instead of friendly discussion, with all opinions welcome and appreciated, instead there are two camps and people are aligning themselves and backing up one side or the other. Why? Why are we doing that? Is it not ok that Adam just creates art and we can interpret it differently and it is just fine either way?
I guess, that was what Adam was asking in his rant too. Why take it all so seriously?
