OMG! I LOVE JOHNNY WIER! Terry, Tara and Johnny were just talking about having done pairs and how the girls have to be courageous in relying on the boys while being thrown.... Tara said she was too afraid to do pairs and Johnny said he did do it when he was very young. he said he did do the throws adding: "...and later I enjoyed being thrown...".... which caused total silence from Terry and Tara I also have to add Johnny is doing his thing with his fabulous outfits! The day before yesterday he had a white jacket and a long tangly neckless with pearls and gold! and today he is wearing this Barbie pink jacket with a totally feminine neckless! AWESOME!!! and kudos to the NBCSN!

Oh, no one watching pairs live :(
Not gonna spoil the competition for you - but Canadians did great programmes - four pairs left. Exciting!

I watched it too, belle! The pairs is my favourite. It was riveting! I agree, the Canadians did well! I thought the silver medalists were the best, to be honest. It's interesting to hear the names of so many old pairs greats who are now coaching. The Chinese team has been skating together for 20 years they said, and will be getting married now that they are retiring from competition. I forget which team it was but one of them must have had a 2 foot difference in height - must be hard to synchronize things at times. Love Johnny Weir. Interestingly, he speaks Russian and was coached at times by the famous Russian coach Tatiana Tarasova. ftw.usatoday.com/2014/02/johnny-weir-olympics-fashion-pink-chanel/

It's been a long time I've actually watched pairs. I also stopped watching men's individual when it became a jump competition only. Have been getting back to watch some routines at least in addition to women and ice dance that have kept my interest through the years. Based on some glimpses to team competition and much more to pairs it seems to me that the requirements are very very high at this level. The routines are extremely difficult but somehow they succeed in conveying emotional/artistical content, too. Quite remarkable! And I agree on the favourite pairs performance

Men start in less than an hour. I might have to wait for another hour and a half for our TV broadcast to begin, though, as I haven't figured out time-table for streams. We'll get most of the competition live anyway and surely taped routines of the skaters who get high points (if they skate early).
ETA We have an official stream here working fine, yay! There'll be 5 groups of 6 skaters and it'll take, I guess, 4 hours or so to complete. (Chan is in group 4).

It has been very interesting watching the men skate. Feel very badly for Patrick Chan. His mistakes cost him gold. Watching Peter Leber skate to instrumental of Who Wants to Live For Ever. Very beautiful music. Last to skate is American Jason ?? - Anyway, there has been some drama with men's skate. Looks like teenager from Japan will have gold.

yup! what an unusual competition for men this year! I feel for Chan and Canada, I really wanted him to get the gold! Hanyu was great in the short but no one was really great in the long...
ET: omg! so funny! when Yuzuru showed up at the warm up my first thought was - the costume looks like something Johnny would wear. And as it turns out - Johnny is the one who designed it!

Woah.. ice dance glove thrown down! Lets' see how the US team performs!
I was watching a couple of interviews from Patrick Chan, they are already asking about the next Olympics!!
I think , personally, the sport changed for him after the last Olympics and became less about enjoying the sport and more about being a Canadian hopeful . I read an interview where they talked about several of our World Champion men who came second at their Olympic games and it took them years to get over the disappointment they felt in themselves.
Gosh, isn't any medal something to be celebrated? Isn't being an Olympic competitor an accomplishment all it's own?

I don't expect there is an answer here but giving it a try. I hear such good things about Johnny and Tara's announcing that I figured I would go to NBC to watch the Dancers short program.....but to my surprise, even though I pay for a cable subscription that includes NBC, I cannot seem to access the NBC live streaming...or their video's after the event. I need to be able to 'qualify' by clicking on my provider and the Canadian provider does not show up. Maybe it is just part of the fuss I have also read about NBC's lacklustre format.... I subscribe to a ip blocker but without a provider id I am out of luck. Any ideas???
I have been keeping up with the CBC coverage and app which has worked brilliantly throughout.... I have been pretty impressed actually..most apps have growing pains or something but this one works like a charm and there was no signing in necessary...and after a couple of ads prior to opening up, there is no interruption to the action at all...no ads of any kind...amazing...who'd a-thunk...
I will think on watching it in prime time but I hate the jumping from sport to sport with masses of ads and no way of scheduling just the sport you are interested in. I am not at all interested in watching curling....or even hockey tbh....
How did this line thru happen??? unintentional.....
