So very sorry for Keith and Nicole's loss. I have loved Keith Urban's music since he came onto the country scene. I would never in a million years thought that Keith and Adam's paths would cross. But it has a couple of times now on American Idol. Two very talented men that have hearts of gold.

Bringing over two posts from yesterday. I'm kind of later getting through the thread but was surprised that Aprilmarie816 was the only post I noticed that commented on the content of Artistsupporter's tweet. I was thinking the same thing as Aprilmarie but assumed it would have been a topic of discussion. Danceygeorgia from p.1 Aprilmarie816 fro p. 19 Shosh's tween certainly indicates SOMETHING went on last year. No, I do not think that Shosh is indicating anything went on last year. I think she is saying what most of us already know -- Idol is a TV show that is managed to maximize ratings and revenue. It is a business -- and it works like a business. s I for one do not believe Idol ever offered Adam a judging slot BUT IF they considered the "Idol Alum" Panel and decided to stay with a more traditional panel of judges, I am certain that they did not make an offer and retract it. It just does not work that way. Would Adam make a great Idol judge, probably. We'll get to see soon enough. ** Regarding Keith Urban, IMO he is nice, albeit a bit bland as a TV Personality -- but no one really should question his knowledge of music, production, instrumentation, popular music, performance, etc. It is extensive. Of the three current Idol judges, he may be the most knowledgeable about the business and music. I am not sure how essential extensive knowledge of music and the business is to being a successful, entertaining judge, because my fav all time Idol judge is Paula and she was not a music and industry expert. Personally, I think Adam spending a couple days as a guest judge is perfect. Then hopefully he is headed back to the studio to work on his album. I would hate to see him tied down with Idol from Jan-May 2015, and in Q+AL which we know is not done, and we might never get a solo tour.

If we pretend that Idol has the goal of finding and promoting great singers and entertainers, and the judges are there to mentor contestants as well as choose them (just go with me on this fantasy), the judging panel in NYC is probably the best they have had. The Idol judges mentor the contestants?? I have never heard this! Oh, wait... is that part of the fantasy? LOL I'm confused. The judges always think the contestants should listen to them and make changes the next week. They talk about using the guitar less, not having an arc in the song, not liking how they are dressed. Pretty much the same things the mentors do but in less time and with no feedback from the contestants.

Adam's hair on the sides is shorter than yesterday's picture, plus I think the sign behind them says Family Council.

In defense of the Idol contestants, getting good coaching from mentors and judges is one thing. Being able to incorporate it effectively is another.
If a contestant strums an acoustic guitar, playing some basic chords, and a mentor suggests he add riffs and melodic lines like Brian May, no one would expect the contestant to instantly be able to do what took Brian many years to master. If you accept the premise that the voice is an instrument, and takes as long as any other instrument to master, you can understand why contestants, even with excellent coaching, do not change their singing much over the course of a couple of months on Idol. The same can be said about their performance/presentation style and their musical arrangements and interpretations.
If Idol wants to graduate seasoned, professional level performers/singers/musicians, they are going to have to CAST seasoned, professional level performers. (Like Adam. Idol, didn't MAKE him, they simply gave him his platform.) Alternatively, if Idol wants to pluck a very young kid out of total obscurity with little musical training or performance experience, and create a STAR, then, they are going to end up producing exactly what the reality shows are known for: a fake, manufactured celebrity who has no cred or staying power in the BUSINESS.
One approach finds extremely talented, original artists and gives them a launching pad for a successful career in the business. The other produces a series of popularity contest winners who are adored for a season, and largely ignored afterward.

OT but not really OT: Don't know how to bring over a post from a previous thread...sorry! so please bear with me....Last night GracieJune posted a link to "that photo" and like all of us AFL Lemmings, I knew what it was and clicked on it anyway. Wanted just one more look.... So I took my 1000'th peek and, for some reason, my eye was drawn to the right side where people click to "like" the photo, etc. and want do I see? The name of a young man who worked for same company as I did...until early last year when company Chairman gave in to stockholders and closed our business down....my friend went on to another job....and I took my place on the refuse pile...eventually retiring.... My reason for mentioning this? I had no idea that there was even a chance he might like Adam! And there he was....photo and all so no chance of mistaken ID...True....he may be just an Idol fan.....or one of the other judges might be a fave....but I don't think he would have picked this particular photo for leaving a comment! I'm going to email him (we exchanged emails at our farewell party last year) just to connect and see if he is a fellow fan! As my 94 year old Mom would say...."This is a real co-inky dink!"
