I JUST HEARD OUR BIGGEST RADIO STATION PLAY "SLEEPWALKER"!!!!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY ;D ;D ;D
The DJs talked a bit about him, the usual stuff, how he's a great singer, openly gay (not sure why that's still important?whatever...), the winner of American Idol (!?!?!! nevermind...we don't see Idol here and it's not like anybody knows the difference or cares
)
They said it's the new single
Re: Adam's tweets, I soooooo agree w/him. Sticking to some strict, imaginary gender stereotypes will do no one good. The world is changing at a rapid pace; the new generation of children already comes much different than what we used to be.
I read the article from the tweet and it reminded me of a co-worker of mine, who has two young boys, age 4 and 3.
The older one is somewhat effeminate-for the lack of a better word-likes all "typically girl" things; likes to dance, sing and imitate, wants to go out with a purse etc.
Some time ago he saw his mum paint her nails pink and asked her to paint his nails pink as well. His father was decidedly against his son painting nails in
any color, so she didn't do it, although the boy asked her repeatedly and didn't understand why he couldn't do it.
She was very upset, she thought that it's somehow her fault-!!!!!- her son could be gay. She said she loved her son more than anything and didn't know what to do or what to feel.
Now, they're good people, only with very limited view of the world and the diversity in it
per se. It's not so much homophobia-although that's present in some part, as well- It's only that most people here don't want to be different in any way- we're a small country, only 4.5 million, hardly any foreigners-on paper, everyone is white, Catholic, Croatian, hetero, average- or so they like to think.
:
;D Being different in such society takes courage, y'know?
So, I basically told her all the things already discussed here-not to stress about it and just try to accept the boy as he is and that there's nothing wrong about it. He might be gay, or he might not be. It's all good. So he likes pink-so what? So he likes carrying a purse as a girl would-why should that be unacceptable? He's still her child and she should wish him to be exactly who he is and be proud of himself, and not feel like there's something wrong with him, especially not at age 4.
Interestingly enough, it was enough to say so little-it's like, she just wanted another person to affirm that it really
is OK, to give her the strength to feel that way.
After that, she changed completely, became totally relaxed about it all and now allows her son to do as he wishes (although, I suspect, when her husband isn't around...baby steps..!). She used to be slightly embarrassed of her son-not anymore:) I'm sooooo happy for her
I could say a lot more on the subject but you get my point-I'll leave the further discussion to the more eloquent people here than me- I so enjoy reading all your wonderful posts every day, thank you all
Oh almost forgot-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVERYONE!!!!
