No Angel I don't usually comment on your Sunday articles but the ibert is amazing. I'd get an iphone if that were a real app!
The lady gaga cover is just strange. It's like her and the alien thing... the song/album are called Born This Way but every incarnation that we see from this era is bizarre, unrealistic and inhuman. Not to read too much into it but I'm curious what she's trying to say... Gaga takes herself so seriously that I can't just dismiss it as camp the way I could Adam's album cover. She's obviously trying to say something.. the question is what? and will people keep trying to figure it out or will they get bored with this nonsense at some point?
Well, camp can be used to "say" some pretty serious things. I don't love LGG or hate LGG. Subjectively, the tone of her voice does not appeal to me, but I do think her songs on the first album are way better pop songs than most played on radio. I've been interested to see what she would do on this album and how she would develop as an artist. I do think she is focused, smart and savvy. She goes after fame pretty fearlessly.
I did not like her egg thing... Although her music videos are sometimes disturbing to me, I do think some of them are really good, and the egg thing let me down from there.
She could be cut and paste, but to be fair, that can be camp, too, so it is hard to tell if she
is referencing things or lifting them. In any case, she gets people talking and thinking, and all of her songs shoot to #1 these days, so more power to her.
I read somewhere a quote by her saying that she couldn't be Brittney sexy, so she went for being extreme, to make people think, "Is this sexy or is this just weird?" She hits that place pretty well for me, LOL.
Her quotes show she is a thinker; they are passionate and raw even if they aren't always
comfortable.
As far as discussing the cover, I feel sure she just thinks it is cool
and wants to say
something, but then, I liked those college English classes, LOL.
From LGG: "If somebody said to me, ‘What you do isn’t art,’ I would say, They’re right.
Yes it is, no it isn’t, absolutely, perhaps, it’s irrelevant, it’s important…that’s what this is all about, really. For me, more than anything, I want to do something important. It’s gotta be
important. If it’s coming out of my mouth, if it’s going on my body, if it’s going on TV, it
better be important."
A few months ago, my son said that Gaga was really smart when she decided to cater to the gay community because she picked up some really loyal fans. Sometimes I am cynical about her motives, but what do I know? I probably mainly feel that way when I feel Adam deserves more credit for Aftermath, or when I perceive that Out magazine isn't treating him well enough, LOL.
See, when it comes to pop, I have become frighteningly BCC! I have my own opinions about all the artists, independent of Adam, but cross his path, and it matters to me how
they treat him, LOL.
This is especially true because pop has never really been my thing, so I don't have any real passion of my own about most artists that do pop.
I've never really loved LGG or hated her, so, if I'd been a fly on the wall at her party, I'm sorry to say, then I'd know more clearly how I feel about her, LOL.
LOVED your ibert post, NoAngel!
