Even after all these years, I get hot thinking about all the "fat and ugly" comments Adam got during Idol and beyond. Particularly since he never was either. So, in a way, all the now-ubiquitous DAAAAAAMMMNNN!!! and Lord, he's hot! exclamations are awesome to see. And, in a way, its a smidge pang-worthy as sometimes I wonder if this buff-super slinky Adam might be as much (or more) in response to the trolls scoffing at his looks versus him just growing into himself and the required athleticism of the frontman role. <shrugs> I don't spend scads of time thinking about it, but occasionally when I look at old reviews I still feel pissed. I didn't know people called him that. They were probably trying to protect themselves from his obvious sex appeal. I remember Michelle Collins writing about Adam that he turned America into a pig sty of lust, or something along those lines ... I always like her style . I definitely remember the fat, ugly, and bad skin comments. I still see them now from Freddie and/or Queen fans (although less frequent) but it still shocks me as Freddie was certainly nothing to look at. That's why Adam reminds me more of Elvis than Freddie, i.e. drop-dead gorgeous looks and charisma (good enough to be an actor), and an amazing voice.

Adam mention in a blog about Sam Smith: For me, a slightly overweight late-twentysomething gay man who used to be a very fit mid-twentysomething gay man, Sam Smith is pretty much the most accessible [new] pop star to emerge in recent years. Unlike Adam Lambert (who, everyone knows I stan hard for, especially since he saved my life and all), Sam Smith did not bust open the closet door wearing guyliner and making out with his male dancers on stage and being totally and unapolegetically flamboyant; Lambert is a fearless trailblazer who metaphorically flipped off his naysayers and hasn’t looked back once — I admire that about him. Sam Smith, however, waltzed out quietly and nobody quite saw him coming. myhyperreality.com/2014/06/30/sam-smith-and-the-gay-male-body-archetype/

I am often surprised at the variance of views of what would seem to be the "reality" of Adam Lambert - the person - the artist. Any view is so colored by personal perception. We sometimes talk about "truth" ..... I would guess that it is only personal truth. Black is white and vice versa.
Then there is the "business" of music which has its agenda. Anything written by the business will go the way of the current view - is he a money maker or not. It is interesting to watch them get on the bandwagon when there is a swelling of praise and actual financial success.
Humans are strange creatures. Few will stand alone and speak their truth.

I can't read everything in that German newspaper article that was posted here today, but the title 'rock gods plus a casting show finalist' pretty much says it all. There are many more trees to fell. Here is a quick and loose translation: Rock Gods plus Casting-StarThe British Bombast Rockers Queen and their front man Adam Lambert are coming to Hamburg.Freddie Mercury is dead, long live Adam Lambert? Surely it will never come that far for the still numerous Queen fans around the world. The exalted front man of the British bombast rockers was too great, too singular. Regardless, most fans of Mercury, who died in 1991, will be happy to hear once again the old classical tunes live. Especially since his band mates, guitarist Brian May and Roget Taylor on drums, still play with great enthusiasm. The veterans bet since 2004 on the similarly aged former FREE and BAD COMAPNY warrior Paul Rodgers for the rebuilding of one of the greatest acts in music history. But then the duo met the young man from Indianapolis during a guest appearance in the TV Show "American Idol" (the US equivalent to "Germany Searches For The Superstar"). Thrilled by his enormous voice, May and Taylor offered him the job, which he quickly accepted. No wonder, as he was already a big Queen fan as a kid. A passion, that one will surely hear in the 32-years-old on February 5th when he gets to sing all the big hits with his idols in Hamburg.

I'm not found of sound bite labels but that one is a keeper.

EDIT ...Lambert is a fearless trailblazer who literally flipped off his naysayers and hasn’t looked back once...
