Queen Win Tour, Live Album + Commercial of the Year Ultimate Classic Rock Awards

The polls are closed, the results are in and our readers have spoken. Queen is the winner of three 2015 Ultimate Classic Rock Awards, taking the Tour, Live Album/Video and Commercial of the Year categories. You can see the results below.
For Tour of the Year, Queen + Adam Lambert’s trip across North America ended up with 57 percent of the vote. Not even the combined firepower of Foreigner, Styx and former Eagles guitarist Don Felder on their ‘Soundtrack of Summer’ tour (29 percent) could touch Queen. None of the other nominees had as much as five percent.
Queen faced their biggest challenge in the Live Album or Video of the Year category. Their ‘Live at the Rainbow ’74‘ release, which gave fans a glimpse at the band just as they were about to break through, had nearly 41 percent. At 30 percent, Toto’s ‘35th Anniversary Tour: Live in Poland’ was good enough for second, with Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Appetite for Democracy 3D’ (almost 10 percent) taking third place.
But it was for Commercial of the Year where Queen proved its muscle. Just as the film studios will save their Oscar-worthy films for Christmastime, the Verizon commercial which used ‘I Want It All’ that aired throughout the holiday season won the prize. It took 64 percent of the vote, with its nearest competitor, Motley Crue’s spot for Dodge Charger, got only six percent of the votes. Surprisingly, only one percent of our readers voted for the long-lost ad that Paul Stanley made for Folgers Coffee that became a viral sensation.
Congratulations to Queen on their three 2015 Ultimate Classic Rock Awards!

Queen + Adam Lambert in the Ziggo Dome
When the first notes of One Vision sound through the Ziggo Dome, one thing is immediately clear: Freddie or no Freddie, Queen still lives in the hearts of the thousands of fans who came to Amsterdam. The first Dutch concert with current singer Adam Lambert should therefore primarily be a musical feast.
George Michael, Paul Rodgers, Robbie Williams ... in recent decades many have tried to take on the almost impossible task of being Queen frontman. Since 2011, the Adam Lambert may inhabit the songs of the legendary rock band, and he does this very well. Although for some the camp content will go way over their threshold, at the Ziggo Dome he is received with enthusiasm by the vast majority of the audience. And this is something that visibly touches him.
Adam Lambert
No, no one can ever replace Freddie Mercury, so let's just not compare the two. But compared with Paul Rodgers Adam Lambert is a relief. Both are in their own way just fine singers, but Lambert has so much more charisma and stage presence. The fun he has with Brian May and Roger Taylor is very obvious.
Visually, the contrast between jumping-jack in the field [this translation is too funny to correct, so I’ll leave it] Lambert and the other Queen members who are getting old is very large. At each visit to the Netherlands Brian May's hair looks as if it becomes a shade whiter and Roger Taylor with his long beard seems like a cross between Vader Abraham and Santa Claus. [and please google vader Abraham, it really is a funny comparison] All evening, he looks remarkably stiff, although not at the expense of his drumming. But he lets his son Rufus play Tie Your Mother Down, perhaps because he can not handle that number? Rufus takes care of the percussion for the rest of the show and thus gives a beautiful addition to the sound.
Freddie Mercury
And that sound is of course very solid. Whether it comes to pop hits such as I Want To Break Free or rockers like Fat Bottomed Girls: every song on the setlist guarantees recognition and celebration. Especially the old fans celebrate when Seven Seas Of Rhye starts and Brian May addicts can enjoy his guitar solo Last Horizon. Big singalong moments come in the form of Who Wants To Live Forever, Radio Ga Ga, and of course the encore that always is from We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions.
One of the highlights is performed acoustically by May Love Of My Life. Not because that number is executed so strong (since early this week the guitarist is struggling with a strong flu and that has an effect on his vocal qualities, which have already been declining these last years), but because Freddie Mercury takes over halfway through the song through archive footage. And yes, then a shudder of excitement, emotion and admiration runs through the audience.

ADAM LAMBERT GIVES QUEEN A SECOND YOUTH
Spectacular performance in the Ziggo Dome
Queen without Freddie Mercury is of course not really Queen, but if someone has to take the place of Freddie, it should be Adam Lambert. The gig at the Ziggo Dome Friday night, with the American Idol finalist as lead singer, was a good opportunity for Queen fans who haven’t been able to see the band live with Freddie as frontman. This concert came closer to that magical time than ever before!
New frontman
Adam Lambert followed Paul Rodgers as the new frontman of Queen, which proved to be a good choice. Rodgers was trying too hard to make the songs his own and didn’t have the vocal range of Freddie at all. Lambert is not only the showman that Queen needs, but also the singer who can sing the high notes of Freddie with ease.
Hits and recognition
Queen gave the Ziggo Dome what the fans want: hits and recognition with a lot of nostalgia. Aside from a few moments that I could have done without, the show consisted solely of highlights. The audience gave a standing ovation for the temporary leader of Queen. The pleasure was dripping from the show so you would almost hope for a new album of the band with Lambert on vocals. That is probably not something that the young man is waiting for, since after this tour he will bring out a new album of his own. He has too much talent to commit himself exclusively to this band. One thing is sure: this show was on to cherish forever for the Queen fans. Queen once more in its purest top shape, the people who stayed home have missed a legendary evening!
