NME has been very supportive and positive about Q+AL and I think that even the comment that inspired this discussion is not intended to be negative.
Even their first interview with Adam when he was booked to do Sonisphere with Queen was great and respectful:
www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/adam-lambert-im-not-trying-to-outdo-freddie-mercuryIn this article, the author is writing about bands and groups who have replaced critical members because Blink-182 is replacing Tom DeLonge with Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio for their upcoming tour.
The article is titled "The Good, The Bad And The Downright Bizarre: 13 Singers Who Replaced Massive Frontmen And Frontwomen" but they do not classify the 13 examples. It is just a photo gallery with brief comments.
JMHO I think the fact that one of the world's most iconic English frontman was replaced by some singer discovered by the band because the singer auditioned with the band's most famous song on American Idol is in the bizarre category. The fact that he did not win his season of American Idol just makes the story that much better.
I also think that Adam becoming frontman for Queen is now the most famous replacement frontman story -- certainly the most topical in January 2015 on the eve of the Q+AL UK Tour.
So what is the offensive bit that NME wrote....
Where is the snark in this comment? It is not snark. It might be irony, but not snark. [Please do not answer my question, it is intended to be rhetorical.]
And where is the critic of Adam or lack of respect? [This is also a rhetorical question.]
Brian May himself said that he first became interested in Adam after someone played his audition video for him.
When they make the movie of Adam's life --- and I am sure they will do that someday --- this strange story of Adam and Queen and the Idol Audition video will be a great scene.
JMHO I think the Idol Audition and Adam ending up as Queen's frontman garnering rave reviews is the stuff that is usually only in movie scripts, not in real reality. But in the movies, like "Rock Star" [2001], there is usually a tragic ending. This one appears to be headed for a Hallmark "mega happy ending" -- meaning the show will go on.
