I understand the secondhand embarrassment when you read an out-there comment by an Adam fan, but I don't really see why we should be concerned about "outsiders." Most of the people reading comments on an Adam article are either other Adam fans or trolls who already dislike Adam and his fan base and are looking for a fight. Who really cares? If a few "outsiders"--people who don't already have an opinion about Adam or his fans--do happen to read a Comments section and come across some cray-cray, they will probably also read the smart comments from Adam fans and conclude that he--like every artist--has all kinds of fans, or they will just shrug and move on. If a few of them do decide that Adam fans are nuts, what possible impact is that going to have on anyone? When I find myself getting upset about comments on an Adam article, I just remind myself that there are undoubtedly wacko comments on Taylor Swift articles or Sam Smith articles or Adele articles, and I haven't seen that any of those performers have suffered career-wise from them. I don't see those comments because I have no interest in those artists and the vast majority of people never see the comments on articles about Adam either. We're Adam-centric so we take it all more seriously than anyone else would. In the example I gave, the people responding to the OTT-ness were not either glamberts or Adam-disliking trolls - they were just members of an online community perplexed by the sudden invasion of cray fans that only seems to happen on Adam posts in particular. These are not people who jump from site to site following Adam fans around; they gained that impression of his fanbase mostly from comments left on a single site. It's true that smart and sane Adam fans do exist; the issue is that the cray sector, although smaller in number, is so much more vocal and visible. The negative impact of that is that the word "glambert" and possibly the phrase "Adam Lambert" are more likely to leave a bad taste in people's mouths. But you're right that overall, it's not a huge deal. It's something that I personally wish would change, but the likelihood of that happening is equivalent to the likelihood of hell freezing over and pigs flying.

As a fan group, Glamberts have earned a reputation for being overly defensive when it comes to Adam, that's a fact. How did that reputation get earned? By fans going into every article that contains a comment section and making defensive comments. Look at the recent Billboard article on Trespassing as an example...embarrassing and unnecessary comments were made on an article that was encouraging people to reconsider that album. So again, my opinion is that it does him absolutely no good.
Now perhaps other artists' fans do the same thing and it's no big deal but when I go read an article and its comments and within a few comments someone says something about waiting for the "swarm of angry Glamberts" there is a problem IMO.
It almost seems like we're talking about 2 sides of the same coin. Coin <glittery>: Adam fans comment a lot when Adam is discussed online Side #1: This is good. It means that Adam's name garners clicks and passionate opinions. Side #2: This is bad. Adam fans comment on everything and its annoying. I personally think the benefits of Side #1 far greatly outweigh the potential issues of Side #2 AS LONG as the conversation is kept polite, factual, and rational. A nd I think this happens the majority of the time. Are there some overly defensive individuals who even make the core fandom eyeroll? Yep. And there's nothing we can do but ignore them. Such folk will always be there and every fandom has them. Will there always be some snarkfest trolls who will take every available opportunity to make the proverbial "sparkle cow" or equivalent phrase in a comment section? Yep. Can't do anything to them either but ignore 'em too. But if the rest of the Glamberts or Queenberts or any berts want to populate a comments section with polite, factual, and rational commentary I'll cheer them on. I refuse to be embarrassed about my appreciation. And the more polite comments on a board, the less the fanatic or trollish ones stand out. #My$0.02 I agree with you Hoppers. Matters to whom? I think Adam lets us know when something actually matters to him. I can only remember one time that Adam asked his fans to 'back off' because it was hurting him, but I'm not sure if it was over calls to radio? Someone here will remember. And mys*&@^#r, what tweet of yours did he favourite? Otherwise it is just the relentless white noise that goes on in all fandoms and I think the behaviour is considered par for the course. Have we got to death threats yet, like the Beliebers? He's made a spectacular deal for TOH, partly because he has a solid and loyal fan base and is capable of growing it - and that's the assessment of people who now have a multi-million dollar investment in him. A few crays on articles made no difference. He's working with Queen, despite some fan behaviour. His twitter followers increase at a pretty steady and predictable rate despite some fan behaviour. His own tours have been sold out, despite some fan behaviour. I don't see any negative impact on his career whatsoever so far. Second-hand embarrassment for many of us - sure, I've had my face flush a few times.

Here is the tweet he favorited: Pat H @pattihum · Aug 27 You know, when a major site like RS covers an epic collab & one of the artist's fans goes there & starts whining, it does him no good!!And that is precisely the type of behavior that some of us have been commenting on today. I am not embarrassed by those commenters; I am however, appalled that grown adults choose to behave in such a juvenile self-serving manner with no regard as to how it may or may not reflect on Adam.

Hi everyone. I don't usually comment but I am here everyday and read almost everything. On the matter of the comment section and the crazy fan mentions. I think Adam's name is used knowing that he has an avid fan base and they love the clicks. That is why his name is used in all these voting sites because they know us.If Adam didn't have his crazy wonderful fan base no ne would even mention his name. We are why Adam went on Idol, to develope a fan base as ardent as we.

graciejane, I understand and thank you for finding the tweet. That was exactly my point as well - that it is out of our control, and when there is real damage, or it really matters, Adam lets us know. It doesn't always matter and it hasn't impacted where he is now.
