I'm busy here at work but just wanted to pop in for a minute. I met Mayumi (visiting So Cal from Atlanta area) and SusieFierce for dinner last night. What fun, interesting and accomplished woman. Enjoyed our visit very much and we were never at a loss for words, that's for sure. I have to say, from my experience, Adam has attracted the brightest and the best (along with the few whackos - see "fan" vid above"). Next time, hope we can get more local folks to join in. But I do have to go against the flow here on Bob Dylan. To this day when I hear his old recordings (when you could understand every word) it takes me back to an amazing time in history. I was a teenager, but still felt that a major change was happening. People were questioning everything, not the least of which was Viet Nam, but also the dominance of the white male. Women, Blacks, Hispanics and gay folks were all speaking up and being heard. His music spoke to what people were feeling and believe me, the feelings were intense and kind of scary. But it felt good to be part of something that just might make a difference.....and it did make a difference. So yeah, it wasn't what we played when we wanted to dance, or when we fell in love and no one was saying wow, he sings 4 octaves, it was much different than that. Apparently it doesn't translate to later generations but I hear those songs and I transport back to a time and a place of youth and hope and change. Marching against Prop. H8 brought back a lot of those feelings, too. This. A place of hope. I was on Boston Common for the first NE rally against the Viet Nam war along with a hundred thousand other people. Inside the Common, all was peaceful, bands were playing, speeches were made and surrounding the Common and the Gardens was the Boston Police, State Troopers and God know who else, all with shields, helmets and big guns. I was there for the whole day and didn't feel frightened until I had to walk down Tremont Street to catch the train home. Bob Dylan and many others captured these times and the burgeoning realization that we could peacefully change this country. It was heady stuff! I have always been so sad to see that the good that came out of that era, the acceptance of other people and beliefs, fell by wayside as this country shifted to the extreme right and dogma replaced enlightenment. Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Gordon Lightfoot, Buffalo Springfield .....their music will always be with me. Ah, sorry, waxing nostalgic here!

Lots of pretty ladies in that region.... my daughter is Kazakh. I've been trying to understand this Moscow concert thing.. are we sure he is playing at the Rock festival? the rockfest tweeted Adam earlier in the thread, but he is not listed as a performer yet, so this is all guess work right now, but Adam did tweet the other night at the twitter party that he would be performing in Russia at the end of May. I think Adam did a great job last summer on the tour at the big jamfest radio concerts, and will do fine, and will probably do FYE music, as that is what is playing over there. If he has any new songs finished, he may throw a couple of them in there. Thanks!

Most of my family is from Russia.. If the men are so homophobic they sure don't worry about perceptions, like kissing or hugging other men in public or even dancing with men . If Adam can do Texas ,I wouldn't worry about Moscow. They will love him even more than they do now . IMHO Russian men show their feelings and emotions much more than American men. That seems true, but appearances of being gay seem to be a big no-no. A couple of years ago we were at our summer resort, and my son met a young man from Russia, and he commented that men there were not able to wear tight fitting clothes or otherwise "gay" styles because of the homophobia there. Folks, I grew up in Moscow... both, homophobia and antisemitism, used to be unfortunately huge... IDK if it changed any in the last 35 years but I doubt it...nationalism is thriving... although attraction of all things American is probably huge as well... a thought of a drunken young male audience brings fear to my heart regardless of the country... and we all know Russians can drink...I would not be comfortable going to a concert with a crowd like that. Hopefully they have ample police and crowd control in place, but I would not trust the uniformed guys either... Moscow has such beautiful concert venues - it would be great if the concert is in one of them and not in some remote air field... honestly - I am very, very concerned for Adam's safety... but then I was dying when he went to Malaysia and even to our own old USA south....

I share your concern about the direction this country is going, but I'm hoping it's just a little backslide - much of the change will never revert. You gotta believe. Think positive, like GNAFL!!
