May 18 --- Adam Lambert's second single "Whataya Want From Me" wins the "Award Winning Song" Category at the BMI Pop Music Award 2011! Other winners in the same category: Britney Spears' "3", Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance", etc. Here is the info for Adam's win: WHATAYA WANT FROM ME P!nk Johan "Shellback" Schuster (STIM) EMI-Blackwood Music, Inc. P!nk Inside Publishing Songs of Kobalt Music Publishing Adam Lambert Is this a songwriting award? A performance award? Something else? It's not clear to me. Songwriter's award -- and there are a ton of winners -- here is the list: This is primarily a songwriters' award -- and there are a lot of awards: www.bmi.com/news/entry/551485But the performer gets recognized too.

I don't feel sorry for Lee about his career, but it is almost part of the win to be able to be at the idol finale to sort of pass the torch. Like him or not, deserving or not, he was the winner last year, and that win should give him the right to appear this last time on the finale in some way. After that, he is on his own. That is just my opinion based on the traditions of the show, anyway. THIS ^^^^^ is exactly how I feel about it too. I'm not a fan of Lee, hellz didn't even watch the season and it's up to him to make or break it in the industry post idol. But still feel sad for him in this instance - a total slap in the face by the Idol PTB IMO.

Are the Adam fans gonna get crap because Chris Medina couldn't get tickets to the finale (see Lindsey's article) and Adam and Sauli will be there? Are we gonna get crap if Lee is not in the audience? Are we gonna get crap if Adam is in some type of group number?Oh ya! If Adam performs there will be crap. But Chris Medina didn't even make the Top 24. I don't see any reason for him to be there. But I'll be there!!! ;D :D :D :D Since you WILL BE sitting next to Adam.............you will be taking notes, you know for sure everyone is going to stay awake until you give us the lowdown. Thank heavens you live in LA and know the short-cuts around town and enjoy crowds

2 cents from someone who has only watched on ustream two full idol episodes (checking out Hailey), so correct me if I'm wrong:
As unreal as it is, as much as the viewers, contestants, bloggers, etc. point out that being on idol can be a liability in the music business let alone not a guarantee of future success, the appeal of the show rests on a Cinderella premise.
In the on-air world of the show, everyone, contestants, judges, spectators, hosts, pretends that America is invested in the outcome, and that winning is not only of great importance on the show, but is a magical key to opportunity. Yes, it's up to the finalists to actually make good in the real world, but the show itself celebrates past winners and finalists on air as stars akin to the guest artists that perform and mentor. If there is a tradition of past winners being acknowledged/passing the torch on the finale, and one winner is left out of this symbolic gesture, not because of any scandal, but simply because of RW poor sales, it damages the founding mythology/premise within the world of the show itself.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but this seems to be very cynical of idol, and I'd imagine it's a bad sign if a show like this which relies on a fairy-tale premise of boy/girl next door plucked from obscurity becomes a star basically announces (albeit in a subtle way) that the Emperor has no clothes.

My son's band played The Viper Room a couple years ago. They were directed to a certain parking place to unload the van. It was a no parking zone, but they were told it would be OK while unloading. Then, weeks later they got a huge parking ticket in the mail based on a photo from a traffic/parking camera. Nine months or a year or so later the promoter that had booked them (different promoters book different things/reserve blocks of dates, etc at The Viper Room) wanted to book them again - said the parking thing was all worked out, and that they could use a different space. When they got there a bigger deal band was given the better parking, they had the same old spot for unloading, and got a huge ticket again! When they play LA now they play elsewhere... Hope Monte gets the good parking space!

You are exactly right on the Cinderella premise of the show. It actually makes no sense what they are doing with Lee because it not only undermines the fairy tale but it also basically sends a message to devoted viewers/voters that their Idol, their choice, is invalid. Weird. I feel like we're missing a piece of the puzzle, and it probably has to do with money, as most things do, lol.
