You've done a great job! I must say, I'm really glad you got it, because I was hurting for a couple of weeks (and even more after it was sold) because I loved it and I wanted it and the price would just have been affordable to me... ....without the little problem of how to get it to Europe of course I was afraid it would just go to somebody who just wanted a chandelier. So happy that it went to somebody that knows the story and loves it, and big praise for your dedication to make it beautiful. Do you have a picture and dimensions of the crystals? My husband is in the antiques trade and we visit a lot of markets where they sell those. I could try to get the missing few for you.

My husband is in the antiques trade and we visit a lot of markets where they sell those. I could try to get the missing few for you. Now why didn't I think of that ... get some Atop ninjas working on my missing crystals! I tried to take pictures of the bigger crystals while I had them off the chandelier, but it was hard to get detail because of their transparency and all the reflections! But here is a picture I pulled off the Internet that shows the shape and cut: It is quite a different cut than many chandeliers, it is called a "Swedish Cut." The color of mine is not clear, it is more a champagne color, not as yellow as some "Golden Shadow" crystals I found. I have some called "Cognac" that are closer. I need about 12 of the 2" (50mm) tall size, to hang on the bobeches (the little "bowls" that sit under the "candles"). I altered the design slightly and managed to get by without about six of the 3" (75mm) size, I would only add those in if I could find some inexpensive ones. The other thing I am missing is a "bobeche" ... it is 4.5" (approx 117mm) in diameter, 1" center hole, with 5 pins for hanging crystals. I found a clear one the right size, but haven't been able to find one in the champagne color ... a local craft store gave me some supplies to try staining the clear one, but so far I haven't tried it. Here is a picture, it looks a little darker than the actual color here, and those are the 2" crystals hanging from it (The 2" measurement does not include the little rosette crystal above it). I know these pieces exist somewhere, because Glee found them to make this chandelier!!

of course you can never sell your house (unless it is to one of us a-topians!) and we will certainly have to put it on the list of famous places to visit. ooooh, and if you charge us for tickets (and you know we'll pay) you could earn back the $10,000 you probably have already invested just to get it back to your place and then fixed and hung.
it was a FASCINATING story and I'm so glad you shared it with us. and it must be wonderful to live with it and get to stare at it every single day. you lucky woman!

If I ever have to move and can't take it with me, I think I'll hold a drawing here on Atop, I can't imagine it being anywhere but in the home of a real Glambert!

Karen - I enjoyed reading the story almost as much as I enjoyed hearing it in person! But you guys!!! This thing is so much more stunning and jaw dropping in person than the pictures show - it is truly a work of art and a labor of love. I hope that someday Adam gets to see it either in a picture or better yet, in person, he would be honored and impressed! Thank you so much for sharing it with us!

Karen......thank you. Such a crazy story and well worth all the effort. I have to ask - have you grabbed a handle and swung on it with Adam in the background singing MTN yet? I like to think you have! I had a quick look on eBay for chandelier crystals - no time to look far now but it may be a good place to keep your eye on. Lots there but the colour seems rare. Happy hunting! Love the pic of the 'girls' - all gorgeous too!

Doing some long distance health care. My dad is in a Las Vegas hospital getting checked out for a possible stroke and I'm up in snow and ice country. He's talking fine (a bit slurred), seems they are mostly lowering his blood pressure slowly. Had weakness in left arm and leg yesterday. Was fine and forgot about it and then same thing happened this morning and he fell down.
Dad's pretty independent, lives in a trailer year round, travels a bit with it and takes wildlife pictures. Ambulance crew rushed him out and he didn't get his glasses or phone charger. With any luck it will all resolve itself tomorrow and he'll be able to take a taxi and get back to his trailer and continue his winter vacation. If not then I get to fly down, park the trailer someplace for the winter, and drive him and his truck back here through the winter storms.
