Could you please give a bit more info about your friends, do they like more casual style, more formal, more historic sightseeing, more evening activities? Asheville, Charleston and Savannah each have so much to see that it is hard to even start somewhere. Are they still looking for nice B&B or convenient hotels? Concur with what is said further up, St. Augustine is not to be missed. Besides all the sightseeing it does have beautiful white beaches too. Where are your friends from? Looking for relaxation or looking to keep busy? Just trying to get a bit better feel before starting a list. They are definitely more casual but enjoy lots of different things. They lived quite a while in the Los Angeles area but spent some time in New Orleans when they were first married. They have lived in a smaller city north of Houston, TX, for about 6 years. They are driving so have some flexibility; they plan to be on the road 3-4 weeks, leaving tomorrow but taking their computer with them to check email since that is how I am relaying information to them. I think they have hotels confirmed, but not certain. I know they want hotels where breakfast is included and are probably planning on staying at nice, but reasonably priced hotels. I think they will spend most of their time sightseeing, but it would be nice to have some things to do that are a little more relaxing. Age-wise, he is 70 and she is 67 and they are delightful and never meet a stranger. My husband and I live around the corner from them and really enjoy their company. Thank you so much for your input; so very nice of you to take time to help them out! They are very appreciative for every suggestion.

Probably too late, and might not be to your friends interest, but Asheville is quite artsy for such a small place. The Penland school of Crafts is about an hour away and has awesome artists in residence and a gallery. In Asheville I recommend Blue Spiral Gallery, but they have many other good ones because of the number of artists living in the area, and printed guides are available.

My father-in-law of 32 years passed away this morning. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in February and was 80 years old. Thanks to all of you who have expressed your support over the past few weeks and to those of you who have shared your knowledge and experience so freely with me.
It is a beautiful, sunny day. My father-in-law was a pilot for 37 years and took his last flight this morning. I have hope that new adventures will be his to experience wherever he has landed.

So sorry about your FIL. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
My children have lost all of their grandparents & most of their great aunts & uncles, in the last few years. I hate that we're losing that whole wonderful generation.
