Sugaree's mom just called me to tell me that S fell on stairs at home last night and is in ICU at her local hospital. She has a neck fracture (between C6-C7 vertebrae) and will have to have fusion surgery. Her mom is in Florida and doesn't even have every detail yet, but says Sugaree can feel (pain) in hands and has feeling in one leg she thinks. I know nothing about this type of injury, but at least this made me feel just a little bit better about her prognosis. Frankly, though, I just feel sick for her. Her mom suggested I call her husband tonight, so I did...but voicemail picked up, so I don't know anything else yet. I'll keep everyone posted in this thread as I learn more...but please keep our friend in your thoughts/prayers. S, I don't know when you'll be able to join us at Atop again, but we do love you. ETA: Sugaree's hubby just called me back to say they will fuse the vertebrae together to relieve pressure on the spinal cord, then give steroids to reduce inflammation, and with luck/no complications, she should be okay. I'll call her tomorrow and talk to her briefly. Her mom said she can talk on the phone as long as someone holds her phone to her ear. hoopla, thank you for the news and could you please tell her that we're thinking about her and sending loves her way? I guess I'm very lucky, couple months ago I fell down the stairs too, but nothing fracture or broken. I got sprain ankle and elbow. Up till this time my ankle still throbing/painful sometimes and my elbow's still not getting better. I had to see physical therapy.

I'll get mailing info tomorrow and post it here. Her mom was a bit shaken up tonight and couldn't even remember the name of the hospital she's in. She (mom) lives in Florida and is recovering from surgery herself right now and can't even fly until next week...I'm sure she'll be relieved when she can see Sugaree.
ETA: Adamme, you bet--I will definitely give her messages and love from Atop! Lynne, she might be really relieved to hear you've been through the exact same thing, with a successful outcome.

Hoopla, please tell her I'm praying for her swift recovery. My ex was a firefighter who suffered the exact same injury 30 years ago. He healed fine and just retired last year. I have every body part crossed that the same thing happens with her.
