Americian Idol Season 15 Discussion Thread

I came prepared with a list this morning! :D



Overall impression? Idol wants it to be about the young ones this last season. The last time they tried that was Caleb's season & all the younguns fell apart when they hit the big stage! So, IDK! Idol never seems to learn by their mistakes!



One of my favorite girls did not make it, Jessica Cabral. Loved her voice, loved her story of the S. American immigrant parents. I think I know why they didn't even show her showcase performance.... it was awesome! I also think Collette Lush (pretty redhead) was better than a few who did make it.

Do not think Gianni is good at all. For me, she screams. I think she is there because of her mother. OMG! LOVE Ricky Minor for calling out her and her mother's shenanigans!

Also, heaven help me, but I don't think Tristan is as good as some that got eliminated. Plus, she is country, so is outside my favorite genres. But she is definitely the whole package, very marketable! I also think she is their chosen one for this season.

My favorites right now are Jenn Blosil, love love love her voice. She reminds me so much of Joey Cook, who I loved last season. Also, love the young teen girl with the pink streaked hair, Olivia Rox. Great voice, song writing skills, adorable, and a lovely personality. Very marketable. If she doesn't make Top 10, I will be very upset. Oh! Avalon! YES! I saw her live and she was one of my favorites. TBH, the hip hop girl i saw at the Dolby showcase, and the girl we have seen previous weeks seem to be 2 different people. Still love Sonika's voice but I have a feeling she might not cope too well with the pressure of the weekly shows. And with her bad Hollywood week edit, may not be a fan favorite! LaPorscha and the other last lady were lovely together! I am rooting for LaPorscha to get deep into the competition, but to not win.

OMG! Jeneve! Can she just go away, please? I have been trying to figure out who/what she reminds me of & Annie Oakley was close, but not quite it. This morning it came to me! Hee Haw!! Remember Hee Haw! 


Now, the guys. I think we can pretty well assume that those guys that made it through via a montage are canon fodder & will not be chosen for Top 14 by the judges! Adam Lasher was one of those. And he is over 16, so........

Love Mackenzie. I need to look up his YTs and Voice performances. Love Dalton! I think he will go far. DO NOT LIKE MANNY!! His shhowcase performance was TERRIBLE!!! What are they thinking?

Can't handle Trent's faces. Just can't! Really like Lee Jean's voice & tone, but he is not ready! If there was a next year, he'd be perfect. I like Kory Wheeler too but he has not gotten much air time, so i am afraid he is not a producer's favorite right now. CJ Johnson, great performance and stage presence, but for me, the voice is just not there!



Wanted to point out that the judges are picking the Top 14 this year. Next week, they will have 12 of the 24 performan & send 5 home. The following week, the same. That will leave 14 of the 24 left.  Then they will eliminate 6 on Feb. 24th. America will vote from the eliminated 6 for 2 wild cards. Every show from now until Feb. 24th is NOT live!

On Feb. 25th the 2 vote winners will be announced & it will be the first live show and the reveal of the Top 10. Kelly is judging and performing on this show, BTW.

So, whereas in the past, voters picked the Top 8 & judges chose the wild cards, they have reversed the roles this year. Voters only get to pick 2 of the Top 10!

(Taped Feb. 2nd) On Thursday, Feb. 11 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), fan-favorite former IDOLs – Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, Caleb Johnson and Nick Fradiani – return to mentor and perform a duet with the 12 semi-finalists before the judges reveal which seven contestants will move forward in the competition and who will be going home.







(Will be taped Feb. 11th) Thursday, Feb. 18 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), former IDOLs Constantine Maroulis, Chris Daughtry, Kellie Pickler, Jordin Sparks, David Cook and Haley Reinhart return to perform duets with the second group of semi-finalists before the judges reveal who is moving on in the competition and who will be sent home.

Does this mean you went to the showcase where the 51 contestants performed?  That would have been interesting.  I agree with a lot of what you've written.  I don't have a favourite yet.

Yes, it does seem clear that this is going to be a young season. I'm not surprised they aren't letting us vote until they pick the ones they want.

Yes, happy, I did go to the showcase at The Dolby. It was really fun. Very talented kids! My favorite was a guy they didn't show at all. When he wasn't featured in any of the audition episodes, i knew he was not going to make it. :(

At the showcase, he brought the house down. Even Rickey applauded, which he rarely did! His name was Christian Eason. Considering the lack of "men of color" in this Top 24, i am very surprised they didn't cast him.

I saw him get eliminated and wondered about him.  Too bad.  I felt sorry for the last man and woman who were eliminated too.  I thought they were both very good.  It's almost like the producers just decide to make two people cannon fodder just for the suspense.

So far I like Olivia, Mackenzie, Avalon, Sonika, and LaPorscha best.  I think Trent has a good voice but really has to stop making faces.  Manny does nothing for me.  I can't stand Thomas' squeaks at the end of every line of his song!!

Do you watch Michael Slezak?  He pointed out some really blatant AI editing.  Funny, but sad how it proves how rigged the show is.  Oh well, we know that already!

OK, after round 2 of Top 24, I have my list of favorites.
From last night:
Olivia and Dalton by a mile!
I would also put through Tristan, Lee Jean and Jenn.
Possibly Kory and Adam. But they might be too old for what is obvious they are trying to do this year! 
Oh, Trent did well but his face annoys me. Sorry!
I know Jenn went off the rails last night, but i still love her voice. However, if she continues to make one syllable words, 10 syllables, she will lose me! Talking about her "No-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-!" Not good! Why do indie artists do this? So damn annoying! 
Do not like Manny.  Amelia's tone is like nails on a chalkboard to me! CJ and Shelbie are just kind of "there" No strong feelings at all.

Can't say I disagree with anything Lyndsey wrote about last night. 

This is Lyndsey's ranking. I would be OK if her last 4 were eliminated. I could live with that.



If I made my own list, I would keep Lee Jean and eliminate Thomas. I would keep Tristan (I know, not ready. But I see potential & that she could grow during the show.) and eliminate Jeneve. But there is no way in hell, the judges will eliminate Jeneve! I would also move Olivia up to the Top 3

Here are details from my friend who was there at the taping for tonight's show. This is the last show that is not live, BTW!
Don't worry, NO spoilers!
(Unless you want them. DM me!) 
The judges' picks were announced first. Ryan called it a "Fast Pass." They chose 4!

Then the other 10 sang. I am not happy that every song was a reprise (boring!) Each performance got a critique by only one judge!

She said it took 90 mins to tape the show, so there will be some heavy editing going on.

She also said about 3 of the kids are really sick & may have affected their performances.

Last night's show of the top 10 was slow to start, but def picked up speed and I enjoyed it. Loved Kelly Clarkson as a judge! I like (in no particular order) Olivia, Avalon, La'Porscha, Sonika and Mackenzie and I'm trying to decide about Dalton.
