Chapter 2 : MANCHESTER, England, England.....
Talking of which, this show was the perfect embodiment of Adam's Black Blob - the infinite exchange of energy between artist and audience. I have no idea where it came from but from the moment he appeared, the greatest roar I have ever heard went up and didn't come down for the whole show - which turned out to be his longest because it became an immediate, responsive process, not something pre-planned and measured. He genuinely didn't seem to want to let go.
I have seen lots of Adam performances and I confess, once or twice I have felt he was 'going through the motions'. But suddenly the stars collided to produce the perfect moment. It couldn't have been planned or manufactured; it simply happened. This was the most 'natural' I have ever seen him. I could see his face clearly and he could hardly contain the joy and excitement - and the surprise- of what he was being given by that audience. And when he talked to them, he was just himself...it felt like a real desire to connect from his side as well as ours. And his voice was fabulous and every element of his performance was loose and sexy and confident.....
What struck me was, when the cheering started to abate each time, it would suddenly start up again, even louder....like a great billowing wave. I saw somewhere, a music professional write something like he had never before witnessed a roar like that at the end of Let's Dance... Adam said he had nearly been blown over - but I think he just tripped...
It was an unforgettable joy to be standing within feet of Adam and seeing so clearly what it meant to him.... HAPPY MANCHESTER, my friends....
Oh, SophieB!!! You have outdone yourself with your insight and humor!! Also loved your description of the Queen fans at the London concert... and also the story of Lulu in the bathroom! omg, too friggin' funny!!! Didn't the same thing happen with the QAL tour... re. the differences between London and Manchester? I don't have time to go way back and hunt down all the QAL threads, but I have a vague memory of QAL London being fabulous, but then all hell broke loose in Manchester!

Adam mention on my local newspaper site! An article about Axle Rose fronting AC/DC with an analysis of a couple of bands that had their singers replaced. Very good mention of Adam with Queen and also accompanied with a BoRap video of RiR! www.gelderlander.nl/algemeen/show-en-cultuur/wisselen-van-leadzanger-soms-succesvol-soms-dramatisch-1.5937819Translation Adam parts: Swapping lead singer sometimes successful, sometimes dramatically
Golden move After the death of Freddie Mercury (1991) Queen got Paul Rodgers on board, who was lead singer of Bad Company among other things. A very extreme opposite. Mercury made fame as a flamboyant artist with a voice impossible to categorize, Paul Rodgers was a somewhat stiff blues rocker.
American Idol winner Adam Lambert (34), who currently is on stage with the old rockers of Queen, appears to be a golden move. A new generation, but with the flair of the original frontman. Many are praiseful.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2RzAAXbo9w Apparently the AC/DC move was newsworthy in the Netherlands as also RTL Late Night had an item about it. In the intro they also showed some successful and not so successful replacements. According to them Freddie is irreplacable, but they did show a picture of Adam NYE concert alongside Paul Rogers. Very shortly though. Sigh watched some further. They also talked about Paul Rogers and Adam with Queen, but only showed Paul singing in the show. They called both some dudes who tried singing with Queen. I expected a bit better from Humberto. According to them it failed for both Paul Rogers as Adam. Guess they don't know about the WW tour and the headlining of festivals this summer. Just tweeted him this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsPeQ8iGzWc&feature=youtu.be&t=9m19sStill getting goosebumps from this.

He's said "work on new music in the Fall" several times recently. Guess I missed the one that didn't sound encouraging! Considering how little time he ever takes off, I figure a short vacation, then back to work. By back to work, I mean working on music, not concerts. WBR will not let him go 3 years between albums, IMO! So many thing factored into the delays of albums #2 & 3! It was the Rolling Stone interview and the wording just struck me as very iffy. 'A new solo album isn't in the cards just yet. Maybe at the end of the year, he says. "When I have a whole break and I can just be home for a little while, I'd like to start working on some new music if I can.' www.billboard.com/articles/news/7326406/adam-lambert-american-idol-finale-rocky-horror-interviewMaybe, when he did this interview he hasn't get green light from WBR yet.
