I'm back home from a wonderful weekend and have a bit of time to write a recap! I'm looking at my little pile of gold glitter and remembering how quickly the time passed in the Rogers Arena.
I treated myself and instead of taking transit/ferry/transit to Vancouver (5 hours travel time), I flew harbour to harbour!!! Only half an hour in the air and there I was right downtown! It was the smallest plane I've been on and I had a wonderful view. Being up there makes you realize once again what a tiny speck you are in this big wide world. I was almost as excited about the trip as I was about QAL!
Anyhow, the big night finally came. I took my son, daughter and her boyfriend. My daughter had seen QAL in 2014, but this time I had better tickets. We arrived around 8:00 and everything went smoothly getting in; looked at the merchandise table where there was a long line-up; found our seats and settled in. We were up in the stands looking at the end of the catwalk. You could really see the guitar shape to it. The crowd was great -- where we were everyone was happy, enthusiastic, stood some, sat some.I love the short WWRY intro because it is so familiar and really gets the crowd going. Adam was in a black leather outfit which I loved -- looked like a rock star! The sound wasn't the best where we were but it is a hockey arena and not really built for acoustics -- also the crowd was really into it and was making lots of noise too. I think I even heard a bit of the chipmunk effect that people mention. However, none of this really diminished the awesomeness of the show!I loved QAL 2014, but this took it all to a higher level! It was much more streamlined and moved along at a nice pace. Last time, Adam left the stage for what seemed to be a very long time and Brian's solo just went on for a tad too long. This time they had cool images on the screen and Brian in Frank's hand rising to do his solo and all the lasers beaming across the arena. Wow! Also, the drum solo was more dramatic with Roger on the catwalk and Warren in the back. I loved that too. I guess they are using hydraulics so things can rise and fall in the catwalk which is very effective. It was magical seeing Adam disappear after singing WWTLF.It was so much fun watching Adam work that stage (though I do miss his KQ antics on the chaise longue!). He gives his all in his performance. I loved the bit during RGG when he stopped in front of the camera to fix his eyebrows! The bit on the trike is lots of fun. His outfits looked great -- lots of sparkle! He looked like he was enjoying himself and I loved the way he tilted his crown at the end. We got the whole setlist and he sat on his stool and sang SYW beautifully. It all ended much too soon. The moments with Brian and Freddie are really well done -- almost surreal to see them together. The crowd slowly turning on their lighters and phones is beautiful to watch too. As we have all seen in videos, the ending is so dramatic with the glitter floating through the air while the performers take their bow basking in the appreciation of the crowd. Love radiating beneath the glitter! The happy crowd streamed out into the balmy evening. I realized my voice was hoarse from all that singing and shouting and cheering -- I was so in the moment that I was almost unaware I was doing it! The four of us had a wonderful time -- best concert ever!!!
Thank you so much, Happy.....glad you and your family had such a good time.
Can't believe I'll be seeing them very soon......
edit : Meant seeing QAL soon, not your family.
