And, just for giggles, here's my opinion on BTIKMS, besides the fact that I love it. I think Adam knows very well what he's doing in using this for his 1st single. Very pop-friendly, kinda sorta like what's out there, but still different IMO. I still don't think it sounds like anything else cause it's Adams voice....NO ONE sounds like Adam!!! We all know that. But the song is very radio friendly. Almost everything I've seen today, here and on twitter are very positive. Very little angsting, thank God!! I too love the drums and will be waiting to see how that works out live. As much as I love them, seems like it might be difficult to do live. But, I'm not worrying about it at all. Just curious. I just don't see anything bad here. Adam needs something that will be played on the radio. He knows that, we know that. I truly, truly think that this will be. We've all seen the hype way before we actually heard the song. I know I'm not being technical at all. Sorry bout that. Just saying what I think & feel. The song tells a story. Many can relate to that. I saw people saying they didn't like Katy P.'s last single, The One That Got Away. I like some of her stuff more than others, but this one really got to me....in a very big way. It was the STORY!! It's my story when I was 17. Down to the Mustang that her b/f crashed & burned in. Honestly, it's true. When I saw the vid, I burst into tears. I think that BTIKMS will hit a lot of people like that, plus Adams vocals are sublime!!!!! I'm going to send it to my sil in HI. She really liked the Queen vid I sent her, so I'm gonna take a chance and see how she likes the real Adam!

Well, how many adds did Kelly had compared to how many Gaga had when their lead songs debuted? I just want to know so I can give a good educated guess. ;P Not sure if this has been answered yet because I am trying to catch up on the thread. I have been keeping up with Kelly's numbers as a point of comparison. Here are her adds for the firts 4 weeks:
Wk1: 118 Wk2: 82 Wk3: 47 (Official Adds Date) Wk4: 21Her single sold 107,000 the first week.

But if your "it sounds like every other song on the pop charts" complaint is true then I'm celebrating because that means they hit the mark right where they were aiming. He doesn't want to change pop music he wants to be embraced by it. We may want him to be a transformative artist but may have to settle for him just being a tranformative personality. ooh, dead thread and nearly dead computer (much slower and clunkier than aol dial up back in the day .) I have to say I haven't gotten this vibe from Adam. So many of the musicians he cites as major influences didn't view commercial success as incompatible with being a game changer or at least a trend setter rather than follower (Bowie, Mercury, Madonna, MJ). Maybe you are right and Adam's creative ambitions are limited to being someone who now aims to color within the lines of mainstream pop for cash and prizes. However, for now, I'm going to stick with my view of him as a brilliantly talented young guy who believes he can be both a savvy businessman and an envelope-pushing artist. (And for those a bit sad about not being in love w/BTIKM, I could make a coffee table from the successful albums I love that had first singles I really didn't... well if albums were still actual objects. Anyway, Adam has so many colors to show us still!)

Okay shoot me!!!!!!!!!! I do not care for the song. Sounds like every other song on the pop charts. Nothing distinctive. It should have been another single. You need a song that grabs you. This does not. You want a song that says this is so great - let me buy the whole album. I am an Adam fan to the core and will never leave him. But I question the decision on this one. The snippet didn't grab me. The full song didn't grab me. Just becasue it's Claude Kelley doesn't mean squat. I wonder what the other 2 were? RCA played it too safe !!!!!!!!!!!!! Close your eyes, put your headphones on. Listen to the bridge at the part where his harmony comes in. Just repeat that 10 seconds. But if your "it sounds like every other song on the pop charts" complaint is true then I'm celebrating because that means they hit the mark right where they were aiming. I really enjoyed this one. It's longer than the others (maybe they combined them) and it's set to Time for Miracles. OMG this is too funny and scary at the same time. Moments when he was engulfed in fans and then times when he had this huge group all following along like this gigantic entourage. WOW, love the vids coming out from the airport. When the door to the elevator closed I wonder if they all did one big collective "whew" we made it through, LOL. OMG. That was HARROWING to watch. Plus, Adam and his guys looked like the Blue Man Group.

Time for me to weigh in. Damn, I'm not the biggest loser. Wait...wrong board. Okay, seriously, I am so pleased, relieved, overjoyed with BTIKM. Someone earlier said he/she liked it better than any song on FYE and I agreed wholeheartedly but wasn't able to post that thought at the time. I took a road trip today and listened to FYE on the way after having heard the leaked BTIKM early this morning. I remember worrying last year that nothing on FYE could make it on TOP 40 except maybe WWFM and Fever and after listening again today, I'm still of the same mindset. I personally love Soaked, CLYG, Voodoo and Down the Rabbit Hole but none of those are really Top 40 material. But this new song, BTIKM, is definitely Top 40 to my ear and I'm excited as heck to watch it climb the chart. I'm full of hope this time where last year I was worried as heck with the first single (FYE). No way will this time be a repeat of last year. Shoot, I'm rambling, but I'm posting, which means I'm imbibing so cut me some slack. Anyhoo, to the song itself, the breath before the first uttered word...be still my heart...the bridge -- I said after hearing the Claude Kelly demo it need a bridge (lyrics, not just instrumental) and boy, did they deliver -- the harmonies in the last chorus (heard shades of a Time for Miracles vocal acrobatic in there). Crap, I can't articulate how pleased, relieved, excited I am about this song. In my oh so humble inebriated opinion, this.is.exactly.the.type.of.song.Adam.needs.to.lead.with.for.album.#2. Dang, that was hard to type under the influence. Let him get his foot in the pop door with a pop hit then he can redecorate the pop house with whatever the fuck he wants. Note, I said, what HE wants, not what WE want. Because we don't know shat we want until he tells us. LOL! Burrito out, probably like a light, in about 60 seconds. I FUCKIN LOVE YOU!!! For me, this is the post of the day!!

Here's a link to some sad facts about music that put the lie to the idea that daring, risk taking, innovative, epic creativity is what is needed to become a huge success. Yes we want Adam to change the face of music, but we also want him to be a huge success and this goes to show you that artistic excellence does not always equal huge success. Finally delurking after weeks of reading (and enjoying to no end) ATOP to completely agree with you. IMHO, pop music is called that because it is meant to be popular, which unfortunately means it HAS to be sort of mediocre to be liked by the largest possible masses. I like to think of it as fast-food vs. fine dining. McDonald's is huge in its own business world not because it is extremely good, but exactly because it isn't. It is consistently mediocre. But it is cheap, relatively filling and available everywhere. Same with modern pop music vs. other genres that might be of higher quality, but because of that also less accessible to the uneducated ear. I would include here progressive rock, jazz, classical music, opera and so on. We know Adam can shine when singing rock (see EMA with Queen!), musical/opera/rock-opera (see CTMBTM, Heaven on Their Minds) and so on, but if he would release an album with that kind of music, it wouldn't be played and it wouldn't sell much regardless of his fantastic vocals. So we should remember that he is trying to get recognition and a star status in an industry where mediocre singers like LFMAO or The B.E.P. are celebrated. I see this single release as a political move in an attempt to storm the heights of the radio charts with music people are prepared to listen to. I like the song (although I don't like the direct emulation of the R&B vocal lines CK had in the demo), but I suspect I might like some other songs on Tresspassing better. For the record, when I heard WWFM on FYI, my first reaction was "No wonder Pink did not included it on her record, this is throw-away junk". Imagine my surprises when it became the biggest hit from the album (I LOVE the Acoustic Live version, of course! ). But in light of the above thoughts about fast food and pop music, I guess it shouldn't have been a surprise. Before you ask, my favorites from Era 1 were Voodoo (not even on the album!) and CLYG (ditto). I appreciated SFW, SW, Fever and enjoyed Broken Open on the record, but not live. Anyway, hi everybody! (wave to all ATOPers). I happen to be a hetero male in his 40s married to a "little monster" (the Gaga kind) and have been following GNAFL online since the night he sang "Satisfaction" on Idol 8 EVERY FREAKING DAY, which I suspect makes me some sort of ...Bert.

Haha! Thanks guys. Maybe I shouldn't have told you - if I flunk the Civics Test I'll die of embarrassment!! ;D delurked just to give you a simple but very effective tip re: Naturalization interview...Load the electronic questionnaire to your ipod and while waiting for your turn to be interviewed (or even on the way to the office), keep listening to all 100 questions and you will pass your civics test with flying colors. i did the same thing. the immigration officer/interviewer will ask only a few questions (7 for me at the time i had it) if you don't get any mistake. more incorrect answers, more questions to be asked. hope that helps..... don't worry, you'll pass it.
