What they said While I tend to think of atop as my home board, I actually post far more at mjs than here for two main reasons. First it's the only board I can access at work (lol) and second, I like to play with the trolls there. There are actually a lot of Adam fans and a handful of haters, and it's like a game to post good things about Adam while pooh-poohing the trolls, all while trying to stay within the elusive guidelines. But here is where I come home to after a hard day's work. ETA: mods feel free to delete if this is inappropriate. I haven't read the whole thread yet.

I was encouraged that my sister "kinda liked" BTIKM and the "natural" look, so I sent her a link to the Austria OOL and BTIKM. Stunning, touching performances in my mind. Her response: "He is good singer, but still not something I'd go crazy over." My own sister. Brought up in the same musical house as me. Sings in a choir. All she can say is "he's a good singer"??? That's like saying Michelangelo was a good painter. My point is that some people are never going to appreciate Adam as a singer, as a beautiful man, as a person. I have to tell myself it is no "diss" of Adam; it is a matter of personal preference and taste. I don't need to convert them, and I don't need to defend Adam. I'll just go back to my iTunes library and play OOL and Dust In The Wind again. Ahhhhhhh. Heaven. Awwww, cassie, first of all Happy Birthday! And Happy Birthday to all others who had a Birthday over the last few days. Don't take your sister's lack of understanding too much to heart. First of all know that I am sharing this fate with you, my family is also not understanding my enthusiasm. I don't know whether your sister would be quite fine telling you that Michelangelo was "a good artist", because her general enthusiasm for art is low or whether it would change if she learned that he was openly gay or what causes her subdued reaction. Some people just do not have a large enthusiasm for a wide range of art and stay nonchalant to the point of sounding ignorant and it does not matter to them. For the music that she does love (classic, jazz, whatever it may be), is it in the end a love related to what she was raised with and it gives her more a feeling of comfort to listen to it as it is what she is familiar with? She may not be looking for something exiting in music. Many people want affirmation of their existing tastes rather than experience new sounds. I tend to admire Adam, among other things, for his ability to shake things up, and to express that vocally. But not everyone wants to be shaken. It looks to me like people are going to be stunned at how REAL this album is going to be. Adam is laying it out there, and the amazing thing is, in today's day and age of political correctness and perfected agendas, somebody who is REAL, is radical, very radical. Just see MJs tonight. Adam did not have to start a conversation about 'cruising for love' or whatever phrase he will be using...but he volunteers that information and lets the blogs and eventually the media run with the story and build him up, instead of hiding stuff and then waiting until the media gets a chance to use it to take him down (and the media sharks are always looking for somebody to tear apart - Randy tonight, Kardashian(s) some other day). Many people look for music to confirm their existing identity, the one created by parents, friends, environment. They do not look for music to reach out to new realms. Adams voice is ultimately totally new in today's time. His presence in our society pushes boundaries that are new to many in the mainstream world, he is, according to many reports, creating new sounds with this album and tries to position that sound in popular music. He is willing to experiment. Along that path, he is going to find an audience that is different than the one that is looking for affirmation when listening to music. He is going to garner attention from people (like you and me) who have never listened to pop music and are challenging their family conventions just by saying that they are. Our world today is very rich and we each can only absorb a small selection of what it has to offer. The moment we develop an interest that is on the boundaries of what is considered mainstream, we will find that our immediate family or friends do not want to follow us, but we are making new friends with people who have the same 'need' to explore that corner of human possibility. Your sister recognizes the good voice, but she cannot feel your love. If it makes you feel better, neither can mine. She is in the UK and so far has not had to deal with Adam as a public figure. But it looks like, that is about to change.

OK peeps, everyone do what they can to spread the word to donate to Adam's charity water on/for Valentine's Day. Tweet it out, post it on other boards, put it in comments on blogs and articles.
Should we set a goal amount? You know, try to get the total to XXX by the end of Feb 14th. Any ideas on what the goal should be? Maybe $60,000. Then $80,000 by March 5th and $100,000 by March 25th. (Is March 25th still before the deadline? I didn't check.) Whataya think? Let's make it happen!
peace&love

I do read the posts there. I do it for the lulz and because I'm curious. But I don't bring them, or my views of them, here. I'm not telling anyone what to do. Sorry, I didn't know that I was doing anything wrong. :( I was answering HSM posts. I just thought that since it was such obvious, OTT stupidity trolling, that no one would think of it as angst :-/ Yikes. No need to apologize. I should have made it more clear that I was speaking only for myself.

Like you, when I have the energy I play whack-a-troll over at TWOP, but it's gotten so predictable. Sometimes I play "anticipate the latest criticism, then post it before they do and then ask if I guessed right," but it's risky, as the mods hate "troublemakers," and in all fairness, that is kinda what I'm doing.
But mostly lately I just stay here where it's fun. Far better for my mental health and overall positivity!

What I've never understood about that date is that Monte and Brad both seem to be wearing Halloween themed clothes. Are you sure it was in March? This is the same night: Happy Birthday Doug Citizen Vein Does anyone remember Doug's birthday date?
