The singers the very top of the heap, chart-wise, radio-wise, etc., don't necessarily have the best voices, charisma, or even the best songs. They are at the top for countless reasons that we have debated here for years. Sometimes I watch the musical guest performers on SNL. There are a few (well-known or not) who are pretty good, but the majority are "huh?" And I do like all types of singing. Go figure.
And yes, Adam's solo career is a head shaker, a puzzler, a conundrum wrapped in an enigma. So much "should be" that just isn't. Must drive him crazy.

Little feedback that may help put some perspective on things in terms of connection with songs. Girl Crush made me weak in my knees similarly to Believe, and it still makes my heart melt, however I could never connect with Underneath. It is just a tad bit too much for me. I realize that others feel differently.

And yes, Adam's solo career is a head shaker, a puzzler, a conundrum wrapped in an enigma. So much "should be" that just isn't. Must drive him crazy. Very true. But it makes me crazy that Adam never even got the chance with some of his outstanding work. Every song is not for everyone and we all have our preferences. I never understood why some of his fans loved Cuckoo and wanted it as a single. I didn't hate it but for me it was not a great showing of his exceptional talent. But we all like what we like. HA. But it would have been great to see how the masses reacted and if they connected to some of his own emotional work and not just his wonderful covers. Who knows, if some of it had been pushed it may have paid off big for him? When Adam was on Idol, people mostly talked and went BS crazy when he rocked and when he delivered an emotional song. But those strengths were never capitalized on (tho they were there with album cuts) except on tour. He was sorta out of the Pop age range when he started his career but that was the focus. Timberlake was around his age and still going strong in Pop but he got his start in his teens or just out of them. And he was played a ton on the R&B stations too and not in one box. I agree about SNL. Troye Sivan, Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey and Greata Van Fleet were four acts that I found really lacking after much hype. I don't think the appearance did much for Troye but the others benefited greatly from the exposure.

Agree, Lurleene...his solo career has been a head shaker for sure. I really think he should re-release some of these amazing songs. But, I seem to recall an interview or instagram where he said (and of course, I am paraphrasing) that looking back was not what he did.
