Good memories and interesting topics here today! Real like John Cleese's comments on creativity. Creative people come from all levels of society. And yes, playful curiosity plays a big part. Ya gotta just love explore and discover things for the love of it. Who knows where it may lead?
I feel like Oliver does about "going home." Perspectives change as we age and move around.
Always enjoy hearing Spike's story about discovering Adam! Who knows how Adam's career would have played out if Spike's wife hadn't been watching AI and hadn't noticed Adam? I don't even want to think about it!

I don't even want to think about it! And what is so telling for me is there had been several "Idol Rockers" before Adam who had done Queen songs on Idol. But it was Adam who got every one contacting Brian and of course Spike could not wait to contact Roger when he saw Adam singing Whole Lotta Love. So glad that Led Zeppelin gave Adam permission to sing that song. But it does make me wonder if Jimmy Page was sorry that he did not move to grab Adam before Queen did. He has wanted Zeppelin to tour but Robert Plant was doing his own thing and has never been interested. I know when Page played WLL for the closing of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Leona Lewis sang the vocals. She did a good job but she could not rock like Adam Lambert. However, no one had even heard of Adam at that time. HA. And it was disappointing when London got the Olympics and Adam could not sing with Queen cause he was not from the UK. But he got the Jubilee, the Oscars and everything else (Even a #1 live album in the UK and Australia) so YAY.

It is beautiful to see how the UK has adopted Adam. It seems he gets far more praise and exposure in the UK. I wish the US would give him the kudos he so deserves. Somehow I don’t think they ever will.

Somehow I don’t think they ever will. I think about that all the time. While other countries seem to "get" Adam 100%, the US just seems clueless about him. Sure, he does some TV here and there and does his one-offs and mini tours. But he doesn't get the media attention in the US that he deserves. He's a great guest on a talk show, but he does virtually none here. And BTW, I think he'd make a great host on a show of his own. Maybe someday. The US is just asleep at the wheel when it comes to Adam, while the rest of the world eats him up. It's got to frustrate the heck out of him.

He's just too fabulous for this country...with the way we're sliding backwards, we don't know what to do with somebody like Adam. And I'm only half kidding about that.

The US market is probably one of the most difficult and competitive in the world. But speaking of US exposure, Kelly, Carrie and Adam are pretty much the only Idols who get to promote their albums on multiple US shows when they have new music out. Carrie, Kelly and Adam have had residences in Vegas. For someone who is hardly on the radio or major streaming playlists, I would say Adam has done pretty well in the US. Judging stint, several animation shows, several tribute show performances and multiple guest show performances when he has new music out.
I think Adam could have done better in the US if his radio representation had been greater with WWFM (his biggest hit in the US). But he was only on Pop/HAC with any of his songs when he was on the radio. His reach was limited and not as great as say S. Smith's Stay With Me. He had a label that helped SWM chart on Pop/HAC, Rhythmic, Hip/Hop, R&B, Rock and Alt. And that widespread exposure won him Grammy's and got him an offer to do a song that won him an Oscar. So I'm not sure that the US was not ready for Adam, it was more like his labels dropped the ball and limited his exposure to ultra competitive Pop. There was no reason why WWFM or other songs could not have charted on Rock/Alt along with Pop and maybe a few other genres too. And before anyone says that SS was "safe" and that was why he was represented on multiple genres including rock and Alt (as if Adam was viewed as some pervert or something) how the heck can anyone explain the success, at least for a minute, of LNX ?

Good points, lurleene. Bottom line, Adam deserves more US media exposure and also get his music played, for cryin' out loud.

Of course the artists who are at the top of the radio charts and on large streaming playlists all the time have the arena tours. But I was surprised that some artists that have been chart toppers recently were headlining club tours of several hundred. It takes a lot to build up to arenas. Even without much radio play, Adam solo has been able to headline mid-range venues and theaters (1.5k to 6k). I hope that continues when he puts out new music. I am so happy for him that he received rock star status and has played arenas/stadiums worldwide with QAL.
