In reply to Geralyn Kay KHMX HomepageMix 965 Houston FacebookMIX 96-5 Houston @houstonmix965 TwitterAdam spent an hour, on air, this afternoon (from 5:00 to 6:00) with Blake Hayes from Houston's Mix 96.5. Here's a brief recap, but first let me say that Blake was like a kid in the candy store - he was so excited to have Adam in the studio and Adam is now following him on Twitter. Also, at one point when they came back on the air after playing several minutes of commercials, Blake hollered out "please send Adam back in here with me! People have him out in the hallway taking more pictures!"
1. First, Blake commented that Adam had worked with some really great people, like GaGa. Adam commented yes he had and that GaGa wrote Fever & that there was a little whiskey involved when he recorded Fever and she was in the studio with him.
2. Next they played WWFM and Adam introduced it.
3. Blake said to Adam "you were on stage in Houston 8 years ago; tell us about that." Adam: Yes I was in "Brigadoon" w/TUTS (Theater Under the Stars). It was during this time in Houston (note: Adam was in Houston about a month, I think), that Adam said he earned his equity (?) card. (I'm not sure exactly what that is.)
4. Blake mentioned the Bruno track on the album & Adam said he recorded it last week. They talked about who's hair was taller, Bruno's or Adam and Adam said he saw Bruno at the AMAs and told him that Bruno's hair was higher! He said Bruno had a good sense of humor.
5. Blake started talking about Adam's fans and Adam said that he had SUCH a supportive fanbase and he appreciated us so much and that often WE know him better than he knows himself. LOL
6. Next, before Blake played BTIKM, Adam talked about the meaning of the song as he usually does but started w/it's about once the "honeymoon phase" is over. After the song finished, Blake commented that he LOVED the song.
7. Next he said they were going to talk about what was on Adam's ipod and that he was going to hit "shuffle" and see what comes up. The song was "Stronger" by K. Clarkson. Adam commented that she was such a great singer and that she could "SANG!"
8. Blake then said that the rodeo was in town and that maybe they should go there tonight since Adam was wearing some boots; said Enrique Iglesias was the performer for the night and Adam said "let's go; we can get some funnel cakes." A LOT of laughing ensued.
9. Adam then left and Blake thanked him for the Mix Lounge performance and for being with him on air for the past hour and closed by saying that Trespassing would be out by May.
That's a wrap!
Hi, everyone,
I promised an account of getting to see Adam yesterday at the MIX 96.5 lounge! Many of you have seen the videos. Here is my story. Long so scroll if not interested.
My sister (a huge Glambert too) and I had both been trying to win passes to a Texas event to no avail, but on Monday she was notified that she had won one of the contests on MIX 96.5 in Houston. You can't imagine how much crying and screaming took place.
We didn't even have time to hide under the bed -- too busy dreaming up excuses to miss work and then roaring off to Houston early the next morning! We allowed about six hours for a three hour drive -- LOL.
The setup at the radio station was first rate. I have never gotten to do anything like this and I was so impressed. They had a place for people to wait with benches and people from the radio station were friendly and not at all uptight or anal. We got to chat with some of our fellow Glamberts. People were pretty good about socializing and not just tweeting. There were the "ladies at the front" managing everyone that I remembered from my only Glam Nation concert. I really don't know why they do that, but as Adam would say, it comes from a good place and I didn't let it get to me. Most of the fans were not like that.
This seemed to be one of the larger events of this kind I have heard about. There were about 30 people. The group was mostly women over 30, with a few guys. It was very racially mixed. The Lounge itself was really nice, decorated and with nice furniture. It wasn't just a conference room. Adam later was really funny and said the room was "decadent." We got great seats with a perfect sightline to the stage. I was so excited I almost died.
There was a little warming up of the crowd with a contest to sing an Adam song. We have heard so much about aggressive, crass DJs that I was so pleasantly surprised by Blake Hayes. He was cute, upbeat, and friendly to us. Most of you have seen how he made a "juicer" joke that backfired on him and blushed really hard. He was more or less the opposite of what I expected from a DJ -- nice and funny.
CUTE was the word for Adam's appearance. Light Adam was in the House! He came out in a totally relaxed manner, waved at us and said hello, and took his seat on his stool with Kevin. He was wearing a t-shirt with a big feather on it and ripped up jeans tucked into "work" style boots. His necklace was tucked inside his shirt and he had on a lot of rings. He is *very* skinny.
Adam was adorable, relaxed, and smiled a lot. We got a beautiful rendition of BTKIM. I was unbelievably thrilled. We were allowed to take pictures and I took some, but not during any of the singing. I just wanted to absorb this wonderful opportunity to bask in Adam's presence and voice. Adam's features are very mobile and constantly changing with cute expressions every second. He looks more serious in pictures than he comes across in person. His presence is full of light. He seemed full of joy to be singing.
Just so you know, he looked directly at ME when he sang "So don't let me down" during BTIKM. DED. (moment is from 5:16-5:20). LOL.
His riffing on the song was so beautiful.
(P.S. You could NOT hear the loud fan commentary or laughter when actually present in the room, that must have just been due to whomever was seated next to the videographer. Too bad all that can't be edited out. My sister and I were quiet except for our giggling and can't be heard on the video.)
We didn't get to ask any questions from the audience. Adam was really funny, cute, and quick during the interview. No nerves or uptightness whatsoever. I really felt I was in the presence of a friend. Lots of really big smiles and really funny jokes and repartee. A lot of it was actually funnier in real life than it seems on the video because you could only hear Adam, not the other fans picked up on the microphone. Adam seemed to love being there. There was an energy flow (infinity) that was real. Adam was thriving on being in front of us.
During the discussion of Mapril my feeling was that Adam was as frustrated as we are at this point.
Adam sang a beautiful rendition of WWFM. Adam was very passionate and his voice had a sexy bluesy rasp that I loved. I remembered to look at Kevin a little. I am one who loved M as an accompanist but I am thrilled with Kevin as well and so glad Adam found him. Hope he sticks around. Very sensitive.
I didn't dare hope for three songs but we got one!! Adam gave us a funky, rough, exuberant version of FEVER! Kevin's rousing guitar riffs added to the experience and this was just a killer lagniappe that I felt so privileged and honored to get to hear!
The station was very organized about our pictures. One of the employees told us they did these events all the time and it showed. It was pretty clear that Adam had to keep to a schedule and this was the only part of the day that felt a little rushed. We got to stay in the lounge and talk until it was time for our pictures.
Adam finished with the person in front of us and then turned and looked at us. He was so friendly and kind. I told him, "Adam, you mean so much to me," and he smiled and said, "Thank you." My sister told him that she loved his music and was proud of him. Adam put his arms around our shoulders. I sidled up to him and felt the warmth of his body -- he's so tall! (For the smell fans, nothing to report other than that he smelled nice.) His touch was very light and gentle, no gripping or pressure.
That was it! We were not allowed to get individual autographs but were each given a very cool autographed poster to take home!
Driving back from Houston, we were totally wiped out emotionally. I feel so privileged to have won tickets to this event. I don't see how it possibly could have been better.
Will post some of our pictures shortly. If you read all this thanks!!

The Daily Pop Briefing Adam Lambert album thing Story filed Friday, 20 January 2012 www.popjustice.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5975&Itemid=206#ixzz1oC22mBhS
Right you lot settle down, we heard a load of Adam Lambert album tracks yesteday. We heard the whole album a few months ago when he played it to us but we were going down with quite a bad cold at the time and also needed the toilet for a lot of the session so our mind was elsewhere.
The picture above is of the iPod Nano that we were allowed to play the album off yesterday morning. We are quite pleased with how this photograph turned out. It looks pretty cool don't you think? We sharpened it a bit in Photoshop but other than that it's pretty much exactly like we took it. Well we made it smaller of course - it was originally 3624x1824 pixels, and now its width is just 450 pixels.
This is how a bit of it looks full size. Actually that looks just as good as the smaller version doesn't it.
We have a bit of a weird relationship with the man the myth the multimedia behemoth Adam Lambert. In the very nicest way we don't really care very much. That might not sound like a very positive thing to say in the context of a review thing but it is quite a liberating place to come from. We don't have any emotional attachment, really, to this person: we did not follow 'his journey' on television, and while there were bits of the first album that we liked, there were bits we thought weren't up to much. We met him briefly while he was promoting the last album at one of those horrible meet and greet things and he was quite funny and sort of shy in a way and we thought that was pretty interesting. When we interviewed him on the phone during that campaign we asked him an unintentionally rude question about how he goes through life knowing he'll never be as good as Lady Gaga. Well we say 'unintentionally', it kind of came out a bit wrong, but it kind of came out right as well. Anyway he laughed and it was all fine. When we met up with him near the end of last year for the album playback session we discussed the Lady Gaga question thing again and it struck us that he had quite a British sense of humour.
What a patronising thing that is for British people to say, right? "Oh they're alright, they get our jokes!! Because they're like us!!!!"
Imagine being someone like Adam Lambert. You have to go from country to country, 'territory' to 'territory', being nice to idiots in the media.
No wonder they all go mad in the end.
So anyway Adam's second album campaign is underway now. The first single's out in America already, and it's coming out here in March. Maybe it's that thing you get when you spend too much time online like we do (and you probably do too), but it feels like by the time it comes out here in the UK we'll already be onto the next one. Also, the song - a big and pretty impressive balladular sort of affair - doesn't really feel like the sort of song you'd launch your second album campaign with. Well not if your second album was anything like Adam's, anyway. The song sets the album up to be boring and moody, but it's not really boring. It is quite moody though.
'Cuckoo' is the big song on this album. First time we heard it we thought it sounded like a streamlined version of Justice or Daft Punk. It's certainly a chart-friendly dance track that comes from a different, more sophisticated place to most of that other UTTER SHIT that seems to be passing for pop music at the moment.
Did you see all those reports the other week about 'pop overtaking rock as the biggest genre' and feel quite excited, only to feel a bit upset and angry a few moments later when you realised that a lot of the stuff that was boosting the 'pop' side of things was lowest common denominator bollocks? Well we did. That wasn't a happy morning at all. But we got over it.
'Cuckoo' is a song is about going mad, or maybe it's about going sane and everyone else being mad.
Adam told us that he was thinking about the video already. We don't want to blow the surprise but it's based on a film. Actually the song is called 'Cuckoo' isn't it and it's about going mad so draw your own conclusions.
'Cuckoo' has a big chorus that goes "I wanna LOSE MY MIND like a maniac, and CROSS THE LINE never looking back we're ON THE LOOSE getting crazy and we've gone cuckoo, gonna party til they take us away". It looks a bit like one of those crap LMFAO party jams written down like that but the song as a whole feels a bit more like an outsidery burst of defiance than an insidery eruption of LOL. It is a really confident song and could make sense of Adam for UK fans-to-be in a way that his first album didn't quite manage to.
It features one of those abstract borderline dubstep breakdown bits that everyone's doing at the moment.
Elsewhere on the album there are a couple of songs he's done with Pharrell. We heard one of them again yesterday - it's an 'Another One Bites The Dust' / 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life' sort of thing with handclaps and footstomping and all that stuff. It feels like the sort of song that might 'cross him over' and 'open him up to a different market' and all that sort of thing record labels spend their time wanking over when all they should really be asking themselves is "DOES THIS ACTUALLY HAVE A GOOD TUNE OR NOT".
(It's got a good tune.)
It is certainly "a toe tapper".
There is a line that sounds a bit like "no trespassers up my arse".
We thought the first chorus should have probably come in a bit earlier.
It is probably important to state at this point that we don't think Queen are very good. Well a few of their songs were pretty great but they're not a band we ever felt that bothered by. It all seemed a bit joyless.
'Outlaws Of Love' is an interesting song on the Lambo album. It's about everyone going "OOHH WE DON'T LIKE THOSE GAYS VERY MUCH" but Adam going "UP YOURS YOU LOT WE'LL DO WHAT WE PLEASE". The chorus goes "everywhere we go we're looking for the sun" and then it goes "nowhere to grow old we're always on the run" and then it goes "you say we'll rot in hell but I don't think we will" and then it goes "they've branded us enough, outlaws of love". It's a pretty special song. While it was on we had a discussion in the office about the whole burning in hell business. We thought it was quite interesting that he goes "I don't think we will", as if he is not quite certain that he won't. That felt like one of the most powerful bits to us, because there is an element of doubt despite Adam's outward confidence. We suppose it is quite complex isn't it, that sort of thing. Especially if you bring religion into it.
And then David who was at Popjustice HQ helping out with some stuff said that maybe Adam wasn't sure about the burning because of hell's famously fiery nature. David's logic was that hell, due to the fire, would not be very humid, meaning that something wouldn't really rot. So the lyric might be one that ponders the science of decomposition more than it does the nature of oppression.
Maybe Adam would be able to clear this up for us during the course of the album's promotion.
There is quite a lot of Sam Sparro action on this album. There is a song called 'Broken English' and a song called 'Shady'. 'Shady' also has Nile Rodgers on it which is quite a coup. Well we assume it is, we've never tried to get him to appear on a record. He might just say yes to everyone who asks, and it might just be the case that people don't ask him very often because they assume he will say no.
'Broken English' has some lyrics about "Tower of Babel ... falling down again" AND "lost inside communication breakdown" AND "I know you won't understand but I've got to tell you somehow".
Someone should tell Adam that the best way to communicate with someone who does not speak your language is simply to speak s l o w e r A N D L O U D E R.
We thought 'Broken English' was alright but it's definite album track material. That said, this album's of a pretty high standard so it's not like saying album track in the Pixie Lott sense.
'Shady' is a bit more exciting, an undulating groove-based thing which feels like an electro stab at Jacko's cover of 'Come Together'. Then a chorus bursts out of it with a "turn it up turn it up turn it wAEYYY up" bit.
The version we listened to was called 'Shady (clean end)' so maybe there is a version with a dirty end.
Adam Lambert's dirty end.
:(
We like the things people who work in recording studios call the different versions of the songs they send out. They add things like "Mix Preview" and "BASS UP" and "NO EQ" and "REWORK 3 Faster". Somewhere someone in a room at a record label has sent a song backwards and forwards to a producer about a hundred times demanding tweaks they are convinced will get the song on Radio 1's playlist. Sometimes we get sent these 'work in progress' MP3s by people who want us to hear how the song's coming along. That's quite nice. And then you listen to those MP3s a few months later to compare them with the versions that have come out on the radio after loads of dicking around and THEY ARE ALWAYS EXACTLY THE FUCKING SAME.
There was a song Adam played us last year called 'Never Close Our Eyes' or something which had a big line that went something like "never close my eyes, MY EYEESSSSSS". It's quite raveular. That should probably be a single at some point, mind you it doesn't have quite as much of Adam's identity in it as some of the other songs on the album. This said, identity's not much use when you're not selling any albums because you picked the wrong singles, is it?
We reckon the singles should go like this:
1. 'Better Than I Know Myself' (this is the one that's out in America already and we reckon they should just bin off the UK release and instead start again with...)
1. 'Cuckoo'. This is a properly brilliant single. It feels a bit unfair to say "it doesn't even sound like Adam" but we suppose if people are either not fussed by what they've heard so far of Adam's work, or simply didn't like it very much, that's probably a good thing. The lyrics are fairly Adamish though, or what we think Adamish means. WHO IS THE REAL ADAM LAMBERT? (That was a rhetorical question, please don't email or phone the office.)
2. 'Trespassing'. Well the album is called this so we assume it will be a single at some point and it's pretty great so that would make sense.
3. This should be where the ballad comes in. FUCK THE BALLAD. Let's go straight back in with that ravey 'Never Close Our Eyes' one. That's a hit single however you look at it, so if people haven't been very into the whole Queen-esque Pharrell business this will help sell some albums. We seem to recall Adam saying that Bruno Mars had something to do with this one but he might have been talking about something else.
4. Now you can do the ballad. We'd go for 'Outlaws Of Love' here. It feels like a better expression of what it might be like to be gay in America than anything else we've heard recently, and it's got a fantastic tune.
Anyway you will not be short of coverage of this album, people like Digital Spy and Electroqueer have been tweeting about listening to it and Dean Piper did a pretty good track by track the night before last. It will be interesting to hear what people make of it when they're outside this pretty small group of people who'd be likely to like it anyway. There are some songs that will make people go "OH THERE IS ADAM DOING ALL THAT STUFF AGAIN" but there are also some bits that people-who-haven't-liked-Lambo-before will like. We're pretty sure most people will like 'Cuckoo'.
TA-DAAAAA!!!!

Here finally the translation that I promised earlier. Had a challenge to hear Adam through the German translation running in the foreground and sometimes I just could not make out the original. In that case, I opted to rather give you a translation of the German text, because in the end it is more important what info the German's get to hear, as none of this is news and each of these sentences have been said by Adam gazillion times already. If anybody can make out more of the original, just let me know.
In general, the translation was very close to the original, wherever I could make it out, so it is not a big issue.
A bit more concerning is that the "gay" discussion ends up being dominant, even though the coverage is even-minded and rational. But still, it dominates too much as a topic. Could have used a few other questions beyond that.
Here now the translation (my own comment in italics)
www.sueddeutsche.de/panorama/adam-lambert-die-zweite-1.1302218
Adam Lambert – The second (album)
AL became instantly famous after first reaching second place on US-Casting show AI and then entering the charts with the hit WWFM.
But from early on, the 30-year old talent show star saw himself often as an outsider. In the general system of the music industry, I certainly seem to be perceived as different from the typical pop artist, I’m an outsider that way. And as a person, I also always saw myself as a bit different. I was a strange kid in school, kind of odd, I did not feel that I belonged of fit in, until my parents enrolled me in a theater group. There for the first time I found more friends, we accepted each other, no matter how weird we happend to be. It was celebrated instead of being judged.
Note: in the video you can see some of the Germany video hack job that was so much discussed here. The scenes that are plonked into the BTIKM video are from that German comedy flick “Tuerkisch fuer Anfaenger”. (the film trailer indicates to me that this film is absolutely terrible, btw...sexist, racist, primitive, dumb, vulgar ...there is no end to the level of SHE I feel even talking about having seen those movie trailers. No Glambert deserves the punishment to endure this garbage, just to somewhere hear BTIKM. What a crime to even make such a film! Even more to use a perfect video like BTIKM in it.
Female commentator:
Perhaps this being different is also one of the secrets to his success. He also is one of the very few mainstream singers in the US, who openly proclaim their homosexuality from the onset. In the US this still seams to be a stigma.
Adam: In America its just, its just one area that in the music industry there hasn’t been that many out artists, if any. And even a few legendary artists who have come out as gay have came out as gay after the fact. It definitely is a bit of a challenge. People jump to conclusions and are a bit narrow minded when it comes to sexuality, especially the men. And so it is difficult in commercial pop music to get somebody to listen to your song, when they know that you are gay, they say maybe: “I don’t like this person, he is gay”. So sometimes it is difficult to get them to listen to the song, to like it just for the song. To see that the emotion of the song is an universal emotion, something everybody goes through.
Commentator: With his second album, Trespassing Lambert wants to now show even more of his personality. On many tracks he could bring himself into the song and co-write. Whether it will be a chart success like the first album, will have to be seen. Fact is, Adam Lambert has a special purpose or mission.
Adam: And on T, one of the things that I was really focused on, was creating music that was very autobiographical. Songs, which are about real moments in my life, real things that I have encountered, but that hopefully everybody can relate to. The very deep emotional topics and motives of each songs are quite wide, therefore I hope that in the end it does not matter that I am gay. The songs are ultimately about the human condition. Perhaps there are people who can look past my sexual orientation and connect to my heart…and to my head, you know.

Bravo German Magazine Scan & Translation by betty: The 30-year-old can be heard on the soundtrack of the movie. WINNER A cool comedy and emotional rock-music? A mega-combination! Adam Lambert sings the title song “Better than I know myself from the movie “Türkisch für Anfänger” (Turkish for beginners) with Elias M’Barek. Another reason for going to the cinema as from the 15th of March!

Display Magazine scans & translation: aguilaglam.livejournal.com/1058.html
GENERAL INFO (by @wildflowrglam): Display is the leading gay magazine here in Switzerland. In my opinion, they're focussing a little bit too much on the gay aspect instead of the music, but since it's a gay mag and not some "omg he's gay, let's cause some weird hype about it!" trash tabloid, I personally think they can be forgiven. On their website and on other pages of the mag which I didn't scan they had some other tiny parts about Adam which aren't on the actual interview pages. I'm gonna translate those first, then post the scans and after that the actual interview. I couldn't restrain from writing some of my own thoughts/notes in the translation, those are written in italic. Also please note that English isn't my native language and I'm not that good at translating. So I hope there aren't any mistakes and it's not too painful to read the translation.
INTERVIEW TRANSLATION:
The paradise bird has landed Adam Lambert, that means glitter, glamour, party, mascara and groupies. One thinks. In the interview with DISPLAY, the glam-singer shows a new side: the one of the loyal loving man who's building a nest with his boyfriend. Adam Lambert is a lot more than a shooting star from a casting show. One knows that at the latest after his nomination for the Grammy Awards and the highly acclaimed performances with the legendary band Queen. Roger Taylor and Brian May would love to engage him as successor of the singing giant Freddie Mercury. But Adam (for now) turned them down even though the performances with them were a lot of fun. First he wants to shine with his second album. In the conversation with DISPLAY the androgynous singer is on his best behavior. Happy, in love and not pretentious at all.
Hello Adam, congrats to your birthday. Or isn't one allowed anymore to wish you a happy birthday because it's the ominous 30th one?
Yes, one may congratulate, thank you very much. 30 might be an ominous number, but for me nothing has changed. I didn't even have time to think about it.
How did you celebrate your birthday?
With a show. I'm in Austria and Germany for promo for my album "Trespassing".
It must be hard to work on your birthday. No, not at all. Singing is what I love doing most after all.
Is at least your boyfriend Sauli Koskinen with you?
No, he's in our shared home in Los Angeles.
Mean! But at least you can comfort yourself with lots of groupies.
Heh, no, not at all. I've arrived in a monogamous relationship that fulfills me. This feels really great. We have a fantastic love live, I'm super happy! When I'm on tour, I can do without infidelity without any difficulty.
Sounds great, congratulatuins. But your love is not THAT perfect either. (note from myself: How dare they assume their love is not perfect, how dare they?!) You both had a rough fight in the gay club DTM in Helsinki just before Christmas.
Of course you address this. The fight was waspishly commented in all blogs. Well, someone who knows nightlife has experienced something like that for sure. One drinks too much, in our case it was vodka, and at some point one gets of unsound mind. A small thing which one doesn't even remember afterwards becomes a huge problem. And then the fight starts... After all we were arrested. On the police station we both got sober really fast and we abruptly realized that everything was a huge stupidity.
So you reconciled?
Yes, thank God. Maybe our love grew even stronger because of that. We celebrated Christmas harmonically. But let's rather talk about music.
Agreed, how would you describe your album?
It reflects my last three years, which were all haywire. I met impressive personalities, experienced turbulent parties, felt confident and grounded. On the other hand there are dark sides which one experiences as gay man. The homophobic hostilities, the bitching we have to hear in the US. There it was a scandal that I kissed a guy at the AMA.In Europe something like that is taken more laid-back. It makes me sad that so many younger and older gays still feel lonely and excluded. And all this just because of the person they love!
How do the up and downs of your life impact your songs?
They reflect this ambivalence. Apart from gay-cruising-tunes and fun dance songs I sing pensive, almost dark songs. Also songs which are about fear.
(note from myself: this is the question were I felt a little SHE, but oh well, we've seen worse things lol) For your album you also worked with the cute singer Bruno Mars. Seriously, how is the gay-factor of Bruno?
Gay-factor? I don't know, I don't think he's gay. But I know that he's a huge talent. It was just great to work with this fantastic musician.
We're totally excited for the result! Are you visiting Switzerland soon?
I don't know yet. This year I'm touring in the US. I have good memories of Switzerland though. We had a great time here and an awesome show in Zürich. Unfortunately, I didn't get to know a lot of your beautiful country. But I know that it's neutral. (note: Switzerland has been politically neutral since like forever, just in case you wonder what kind of neutrality he's talking about.) And this is probably not a bad idea for a small nation.
Now you're flying to LA to your boo. What souvenir are you bringing him?
Myself! Do you think that is enough? *laughs*
Adam Lambert says that his album "Trespassing" is getting finished and will be out in "Maypril".
