OT (but not entirely!!!) AFER (Americans for Equal Rights) is broadcasting Dustin Lance Black's new play "8," which is based on the transcripts from the Prop 8 trials. Tickets for the stage reading are starting at $500 in L.A. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Chris Colfer, Rob Reiner – the stars who will participate are major. Well, damn, Rob Reiner can explain it better!! www.youtube.com/AmericanEqualRights(hmm, won't embed – but watch!) Anyway, it starts here in an hour and a half and btw, Dustin Lance Black and Adam follow each other and he wrote "Milk," which Adam cited during Idol as one of his most inspirational movies. I love that they are doing this. |

I love that they are doing this. I agree! The ridiculousness of Prop 8 really needs to be exposed to the world! It is an embarrassment to me, as a Californian! |

Just popping in for a sec to give you another person's opinion re BTIKM......We were driving into center city for dinner and our new car has sirius radio. I always jump around playing numerous stations because my old car doesn't have millions of stations. But driving down i hit 20 on 20...BTIKM was playing. I made my husband listen to the song. Back up. we first heard Katie "Best of Me. His response, her songs all sound the same. Then we heard Carrie's new song. His response good voice, but not outstanding. I asked what do you think of BTIKM . I told him it was a new song. He response. not much of a catch so he didn't like it. ??? One the way home, we heard One Direction's new song What makes you beautiful and of course, Fun's new song, We are Young. I asked him of all the songs you've heard tonight which was the best in his opinion. FUN, we are young.. I guess that's why it is #1 in iTunes. Point being, I love his song or maybe its his voice, but could it is time to release the 2nd single. sigh... back to relaxing after a fabulous french dinner w/friends. Did BTIKM get played tonight on open house? |

I just want to express my gratitude for all of you who make this such a fun and supportive environment for so many of us. In particular, you all really helped me get through a rough week a little more easily. Last week, within minutes, we found out that my grandson needed to go into the hospital to get help for RSV and that my father in law has stage 4 lung cancer. The next day, I ended up in the hospital as well. Thankfully, my grandson and I are home and getting back to normal. I mention this only because I am down visiting my father in law today, who is understandably quite depressed as he worries about everything coming up. I asked him what he has enjoyed in the past, what has taken him out of reality and has filled his mind with beauty or pleasure for a brief space. I wanted to recreate that thing for him for a minute, but he really couldn't think of anything and said the way he has dealt with anxiety before was by working harder, and he can't do that now. I told him how my favorite music does that for me, and finally we identified some beautiful music he enjoyed and listened to that. I thought about how lucky I am to have discovered Adam's voice and this place and all of you. Connecting with Adam's voice, and with his words, and with people here, has brought me that kind of stillness for awhile that is sometimes so needed. Reading a beautifully written post or seeing Adam pics and gifs, or reading all the clever and funny things people have come up with here, or reading birthday wishes or get well wishes, or being reminded that there is a shallow end, and that it is restful to play there from time to time, has provided me with so many resting places in the middle of life's journey over the past few years. I loved when Adam was talking in a recent interview about how cool it is that his fans have made friends with each other. I like that he knows about that and feels good about having inspired that kind of connection through his music and example. I like that he gets how significant and life affirming that can be. Adam definitely was a catalyst for bringing us together and reminding us to reach out and tell each other we are beautiful, and sometimes we need that when life gets very real. I've said too many words as usual, lol, but really, one word says it all: thanks.  |

I'm sorry your husband didn't feel it, crazyoldgal, but yes, lightweight fluff is always going to be catchy on first listen. I like the .fun song too, but it's like cotton candy – tasty and enjoyable and I'll likely be sick of it after the third bite.  I'd rather have a decadent meal with tons of nuance that four years from now, I'm still ruminating about, discovering and appreciating. Current radio play does not icons make. Flavors of the month? Sure. Lynne, we cross-posted. /o\ /o\ I'm so sorry. I lost my dad to lung cancer and know that it is devastating. My heart goes out to your father-in-law. Please keep talking to him and keeping him reflecting on the things he loves/loved. It's going to be tough for hubby too. <33333 You and P. and P's dad. |
