A request for an Apology from EW

It is time for an EW apology to Adam, the LGBT community and to their readers.
Yesterday, an EW reviewer wrote a review of Adam Lambert's new album, TRESPASSING. She gave the album a B-, perhaps a bit lower than I would have expected but a reviewer is entitled to his or her opinion. But it is the deficiencies that she listed that are troubling.
1. It is a "big gay dance-club album."
2. He stopped "flirting with the straight crowd, indulging in classic-rock guitars and gender-neutral pronouns" like he did on his debut, For Your Entertainment.
3. "he's left the closet far behind — defending gay marriage (''Outlaws of Love'') and celebrating what happens when two consenting adults love each other enough to share their safe words (''Chokehold'')."
4. He's come out "as a superfan of funk, '80s-night house, and Studio 54 grooves." -- How do you "come out" as a music genre fan?
5. She gives the credit for the first half as a study in "fabulosity" - a classic gay stereotype.
6. And criticizes Adam for "The ballad-heavy second half" which she describes as "so laughably over-the-top. By the end, our hero is wailing about fallen Towers of Babel and ripping away his flesh and bone to a ''red river of screams.'' "
And woven through the review is the not so original and not funny "crime" of wearing makeup.
I honestly do not care if Melissa Maerz writes a good or bad review of TRESPASSING. In the real world, music buyers and serious music critics will decide the fate of this album. What concerns me is that this review is of a "gay artist" not an "artist". This is a review that demeans all LGBT Americans and the people who love them. This is a review that uses dated stereotypes rooted in hate and separatism -- "closets", make-up wearing, disco loving gays", and so on -- in a cheap attempt at humor.
The fact that LGBT Americans do not have equal rights and the legal protections afforded to "straight" American is not laughable.The search for personal identity is not laughable. And this review is certainly not humorous.
These deficiencies reveal a reviewer who is clearly out of touch with the cultural mainstream of America and the World. I expect more from EW than trivialization of such important issues. And I expect music reviews to be about the music not the personal lifestyle choices of the artist.
It is ironic that this review was published on the same day as President Barrack Obama affirmed his personal view supporting marriage equality. The world is changing. America is finally moving into the 21st century. It would be nice if EW decided to no longer support bigotry and hate -- even hate that arrives in the guise of humor.

Thanks to these pop vets, Trespassing's first half is a study in fabulosity: ''Kickin' In'' is stripper-heel disco at its finest, and the rousing ''Shady'' plants its freak flag in the uncharted territory between Nine Inch Nails and Michael Jackson. Too bad the ballad-heavy second half is so laughably over-the-top. By the end, our hero is wailing about fallen Towers of Babel and ripping away his flesh and bone to a ''red river of screams.'' Cheer up, Glammy. It's nothing a little makeup remover can't fix. B-
