My way of addressing gay hatred/fear/criticism is a bit different. Here in the south, I guess much of the mindset against gays comes from the religious viewpoint.I don't have it in me to be fierce and order anyone out of my presence, that's just not me, but I speak from my own faith base.
When someone, usually very earnestly, tells me their anti-gay deeply ingrained religious viewpoint, I just tell them quietly that my God of love created every person who has ever walked this earth, and who are we to judge God's own wonderful creations - that every person deserves the right to love and happy fulfillment. Judge not.
This response usually cools down the conversation and has, I believe, resulted in some deep thinking and soul searching and perhaps opened a few minds and hearts. I hope so anyway. Maybe it helps that I am usually fighting back tears at the time because this subject means so much to me. My brother is gay and he is the most kind, most gentle, loving, giving man I know. God created someone truly beautiful when he created my brother. *sniffle.sniffle*

Nicely said I can only speak from experience or the people around me. Growing up I was told "this is what is right and that's that". As I've grown up I've come to find I don't believe certain things anymore. Or at least I've come to feel comfortable questioning them. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs, it's the people that get 'carried away' that scare me.

Pat @ileanne24 Yes!!! RT @ala4afam: Japan cd sales (PHYSICAL sales ONLY-no digital sales included) Usher 11,443 total, Adam 11,531 total. KC ~7k total. ETA I have to add this. I just saw it. mmyy9 @mmyy9 Usher's 11,443 is for 2 weeks. Adam's 11,531 is for 6 weeks. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Gelly, that twitter person got Adam's time stamp wrong. TSP was released on June 6th in Japan, 2 weeks ahead of Usher.

Don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but the Billboard things seem to generate a lot of buzz. I would guess a lot of bloggers who don't have the time, inclination or energy to do their own research feel Billboard is a reputable source. Anyway - good for Adam. That is a great interview. Guess I'll go throw a few votes on the Billboard best of 2012 poll... ETA: And, Gelly, those pictures just above this post - especially the first: Gaaaaahhhhh 8-)

I could insert "daughter" for your brother in that comment. She was a University music professor who changed her career to teach handicapped children and has been in a loving relationship for many years. Bigotry is everywhere , unfortunately even in my own family.
